I recently did my first overnight hike. Had to start somewhere, so I hiked 6.5 miles with just what I could carry (in my case, 25 lbs), set up camp, and hiked out the next day. Learned a lot in just one overnight and I'm looking forward to my next endeavor.

I'm pretty jealous of people that are able to hike long term (know a couple AT and PCT through-hikers). I don't know if I could cut it. I do know I'd like to do some longer hikes in the near future as I continue to acquire better gear and stamina. Planning my next overnight in March when the weather gets reasonable again.

Anyone hike? I do like reading trail journals if you have one.

I've hiked a time or two. ;)

I've seen that you've been busy, that's way cool! Glad you are enjoying it.

I hike almost every weekend but it usually involves hiking up steep hills chasing little birds that need to die

I hike and do bike camping. I do not write though... I can not think of much better than after a long hike or ride, setting up camp smoking a little weed and watching the sunset, then relaxing by the fire and looking at the stars.

Like this one?

Seriously, I hike twice a week on a fire road in Santa Monica Mts National Rec Area, and whenever I can in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Oh and Death Valley. Bring your camera! (click on the pics to see full size pics)

I have section-hiked about half of the AT and about a quarter of the PCT. Never through-hiked.

A lot of what I've done is hit the same sections multiple times. Been about 8 years since my last section in NJ, though.

I've hiked a bunch of the Frank Church Wilderness area. It's larger than some small states without a single road or telephone pole. No motor bikes, no mountain bikes. No mechanical anything. It gets real quiet out there, except for the wolves.

I lived in Moab a few years before deciding to buy a cabin there, so I've hiked around that area quite a bit. Hiked around the Maze District in Canyonlands one summer, that was cool. Was able to get to the confluence of Colorado and Green rivers

I do a couple ever summer/fall. I'm not sure what kind of terrain you are hiking, but our west 6.5 miles can be pretty arguous.
There are a few hikes I take my boys on that are only 5.5 miles, but it takes several hours to get there because of he elevation climb.
Any who, it's a rewarding experience to hike in and see what only a few others have seen.

This is a hike from a couple of years ago with some friends for a bachelor party.

The Mississippi terrain isn't anything like out west. It tends to be full of ravines you have to climb up and down spanning 1000 feet.

The two trips to the Rockies I've taken, didn't official hike, but we did get out and hit some trails just to explore.
