Mussina was every bit as good as Glavine (if not better), but he lacked the 'sexy' stuff that Glavine has that all the voters love (300 wins, Cy, WS)

There's a pretty interesting book called Living on the Black that chronicles Mussina's and Glavine's 2007 seasons. I enjoyed it, anyway.

I'm no fan of either one of these guys but when it comes down to it there is no comparison. Mussina couldn't carry Glavine's jock if he wanted to.

You clearly underrate Mussina if you don't think he was better than Morris or Pettitte.

yes but did he have a movie about him. :suds:

But yes, I think Mussina was better than those two

I wonder if Andy Pettitte loads up on dope before he gets up in front of his congregation like he did when he pitched?

Disgusting creep.

So then why does Mussina have better numbers than Glavine virtually across the board? Mussina's got a better win %, ERA+, WHIP, K and BB rates, etc.

And even if you look at Glavine's career to the innings point where Mussina retired (if anyone tries to use the 'Glavine has worse numbers because he pitched longer' argument), Mussina still has better numbers.

Not to mention, their playoff stats are quite similar.

I think Mussina is somewhat underrated. I liked that guy.

Yea, I think he had a very underrated career despite playing almost half of it in NY. He probably should've won the 2001 Cy, and was just 30 wins shy of 300 with numbers across the board that stack up favorably to many HOF pitchers...if he hung on for 3 more mediocre years to win 10 games a year, he would've been largely considered a HOF pitcher, but instead is struggling to get 25% of the vote.
