ESPN commentators are effusive in their praise for Andy and his impending retirement and how much they trust and believe someone like Andy who admitted to steroids use. This is strange considering the treatment most of these same commentators give others who took HgH and other steroids.

New York Yankees' Andy Pettitte retires for second time - ESPN New York

Here is Kirk Kurkjian, one of the most respected baseball commentators on ESPN"

“My guess is that he [Bud Selig] is not going to suspend Andy Pettitte, and I don’t think he should suspend Andy Pettitte. I mean, if we really look at this in 2002. A guy who used HGH a couple of times in order to get his elbow better so he can come back and help his team. If that is an offense that demands a suspension, then boy we are going to have a whole lot of suspensions out there…. There is a really big difference between using anabolic steroids and HGH a couple of times. HGH helps in recovery. It doesn’t make you bigger and stronger technically so I would be really surprised if a suspension followed this…"

He repeated it this morning that he would not hold the HgH use against Andy in the HOF voting even though he knows he is not yet a HOF material. The hypocrisy of baseball writers and commentators is nauseating.

Who respects Tim Kurkjian? He's probably the best baseball writer at E!SPN but that's not an accomplishment.

Not Tim. His brother Kirk.

On another note, does Petite have the credentials to be in the HOF anyway?

For me, his lack of dominance makes him fall just short. He had three years where you could call him one of the best pitchers in his league (96, 97, 05). Other than that, he was average/above average. And while he was durable, he was only in the top 10 in IP twice.

I think he's more deserving than guys like Jack Morris though.

I was thinking he would be on the same page as Morris and Mussina. Hall of Very Good, but just short of the HoF

Lol no. Mussina was easily a better pitcher than those two. He's very deserving of enshirement in Cooperstown.

If Jack Morris is a HOFer, then so is:

Kevin Appier
Jerry Koosman
Tommy John
Jim Kaat
Dennis Martinez
Dave Stieb
Frank Tanana
Bret Saberhagen
David Cone
Luis Tiant
Wilbur Wood
Billy Pierce
Urban Shocker
Tommy Bridges
Orel Hershiser
Mark Langston
Wes Ferrell

etc.

A guy with a 3.90 ERA (never finished better than 5th), 1.30 WHIP (never better than 4th), and a very pedestrian walk and K rates despite pitching his career during a pitcher friendly era? I'll pass.

Oh no, Kurkjian isn't respected at all. Are you serious?

Except for when he's heaping undue praise on the Yankees with nonsensical quotes that make McCarver look reasonable. When it comes to the Yankees, Kurkjian is a blubbering fool. I'm surprised he has even mentally and emotionally accepted that PEDs are a major part of the Yankees history over the last 10 years.

"Andy Pettitte admitted to HGH use, but I don't think Mariano Rivera ever did. In fact, I'm sure of it. No make that positive. I'm positive of it! I am prepared to categorically deny right now that Mariano Rivera ever juiced." - Tim Kurkjian

Sorry for the error, but the statement is attributed to TIM KURKJIAN, ESPN baseball analyst and not Kirk Kurkjian . What makes Tim Kurkjian's assertion in the quotes even more absurd is that he knew Andy Pettitte was originally fingered in the Jason Grimsley's drug bust and now claiming Andy took HGH for the health benefits. Unbelievable.

You clearly underrate Mussina if you don't think he was better than Morris or Pettitte.

Obviously, people respect Tim Kurkjian. I'd simply suggest that those who do wouldn't know a quality baseball writer if they were stabbed in the eye by the writer's pen, because Kurkjian is pretty hacky.

Why the fuck would I care whether or not he praises the Yankees? You think that matters to me?

In his favor Ferrell was an excellent hitter.

yes he was. But he was also a very good pitcher. His career 4.04 ERA doesn't look very impressive.. until you consider he pitched in the hitter friendly 30's. He had a career ERA+ of 116.

Mussina was every bit as good as Glavine (if not better), but he lacked the 'sexy' stuff that Glavine has that all the voters love (300 wins, Cy, WS)
