Not ready to begin training camp.

Pretty clear why this guy couldn't get any money on the market. As good as he's been the last two seasons (and look at PFF, he has been good), he's too big a risk to give a big contract.

The article also said he was around his playing weight and other than the calf injury appeared to be in good shape. He'll be fine, and worth his contract. I'm still more worried about the other tackle.

People need to get over Smith. He has done nothing to think that he won't show up in shape and play at a high level. I'm not worried about him at all. I agree, I'm more worried about Whit.

Really? Because it 2009 I could have swore that he came in out of shape and immediately broke his foot, costing him the first half of the season. I suppose that was just a bad dream.

2009? You do realize that was like, 4 years ago, right? Can we move on?

The guy came in 7lbs over his normal playing weight. The calf injury is not reported to be serious, and he said he hopes to practice/be cleared by Sunday.

I know the guy has brought a lot of shit down on himself, but his past 2 seasons have been pretty good. Considering he didn't make any camps, the fact that he came in at near his playing weight is a very good sign for him.

He also only started 4 games in 2010 because he had trouble with conditioning and again broke his foot.

It was only after the Bengals didn't pick up his option that he kicked his ass in gear for the last two seasons of his rookie deal.

He clearly has a history and he clearly has scared off many teams. It's not unfounded paranoia for some of us to have doubts about the guy.

As for his weight.... I haven't seen one source that lists his actual weight -- Only Hobson saying that he was close to his playing weight. I found that sort of comical since his 'listed' playing weight last year was a far cry from what the dude actually weighed. He was listed at 335, but he had to be closer to 350.

I'm sorry, I don't worry about things that happened 3 years ago. The last 2 years he has been one of the best RT's in the league and has been in shape. He looks in shape at camp and should be ready to go Sunday. Non issue. That simple.

C'mon guys, give the fat boy a break. When the season starts he'll be grading roads and making at least as many pancakes on the field as he eats daily for breakfast.

Bingo. And I wasn't a big fan of his when we drafted him. His first two years were a wash...but his last two years have shown he is on his way to being one of the better RT's in the league.

At least for the past 2-3 camps he's come in relatively on weight. It could be worse. Could be like Bryant McKinnie who seems to come in every year 20-30lbs over weight regardless.

He's there now, if you buy into PFF stats.

He's supposedly around 340, which is really close to his listed playing weight. Of course the source is Hobspin.

Evidently the folks that get paid to offer contracts worry about these things.... And I don't blame them.

Tits is going into his fifth season. He should be growing up -- Not skipping practice.
