Konecny is a player who really could use some more time to physically mature and develop against more mature players....

I was tormented last night by the numbers game. Who is going to be here and who is going to be gone. Particularly, on the blue line.

I keep reading/hearing/am told that Provorov will be a Flyers next season. Fine. Who wont be?
The obvious choice is .... not so easy.

Manning came a long way under Hakstol. He is fairly mobile, plays a gritty game and has some puck skills. He is also smart enough to know to keep his game as simple as possible.
Gudas? Hexy has already stated that he wants him back.
AMac? He had a very good playoff and his contract is just ugly.
Schultz (I know, Nick, not Justin)...maybe, but his contract is fairly friendly and all he does is eat minutes and block shots.
MDZ? He had a strange year in that he never got 100% going offensively. His defensive play improved and he can still skate and has a wicked shot.
Streit? Last year of a big contract. Not really any bigger than Ghost. Played a solid two way game in the playoffs. Still has a great shot and can anchor a PP.

So, at least one if not two may or will go....if Provorov is to make this team and perhaps even one of the other prospects. That could be a tall order. I am sure Hexy has his frequent caller plan up to date.

I know he played well before he got hurt but his offense never came around. I would love to see if we could trade MDZ for a top 6 forward.

I'm still not overly impressed with Manning. Barring a trade (Streit most likely) i think he's the odd man out on the blueline. A contender doesn't have a dman of Manning's ilk on it, that's just the way it is IMO. He's fine for the team right now, but as the team starts improving, he'll be left in the dust i think.

I don't really understand the Shattenkirk one just from a shear value perspective. I don't know how the Flyers come up with the pieces to get him.

Eriksson on the other hand makes a ton of sense. He might be #1 on my UFA list for the Flyers.
This is right on the money. Keep Shattenkirk we have a ton of young Dmen coming and for what they would take from us in a trade no way and Yes Yes Yes to Erickson.

Is anyone entertaining the idea of Stamkos this off-season? With Vinny, Schenn, Grosmann coming off the books, Umberger getting bought out, possible Streit trade...money might be there

So they're at 64 mil allotted to next year with 10 forwards, 5 d, and 3 G (Philadelphia Flyers | General Fanager).. They're calling for a cap of about 74 mil next season. Take Lyon off because they'll only carry 2 G and you're at 63 mil or so. 11 mil in space and you need 2 D and probably 3 F.

Provy makes the team - 925K
Konecny makes the team - 925k
Resign Gudas - 2.75 mil
Resign Schenn - 4.5 mil
Resign Cousins - 1 mil

That's 10 mil there, in probably the cheapest reasonable way. I don't think they'll have enough to make a move for Stamkos barring a bigger move than just Streit (5.25)

Hmmm...ok. I would think they will sign White for 1 mil as well. Vinny will retire which would clear another 2.25. Umberger buyout opens 2.3. I did forget about raises for Jake and Coots taking effect next year. Oh well, one can dream.

No doubt. He'd be a great add, exactly what the team needs IMO. And i'd say if any team were to do anything drastic to make that happen, the Flyers would be one of them. But i think they'll wait a couple more years to do something like that. Wait for at least Sanheim, Provorov, and Konecny to be full-timers.

I mentioned the other day that I think Okposo would be a great fit in Philly. Love that guy's energy.

Buying out Umberger saves us $3 million in cap for next season, but adds $1.5 million for the following season. It's probably worth doing to build on our success of this year and considering Streit/MDZ/Mase/Schultz all come off the books the following year in which it would add to the cap. We'd expect to have our prospects on defense all with the big club by then, which also saves us a lot of cap space.

Either way, that $3 million can go a long way toward signing a free agent winger or trading for one during the season.

An extra 3 million is always nice to have. I have a question about MDZ coming off the books. Do you think we would trade him before he walks?

I think MDZ is a perfect contract right now. If they're in the hunt come the trade deadline next year, they keep him for the run, if they're out, they trade him for a boatload. Top 4 dman, under 4 mil, they could get a king's ransom for him next year at the deadline, assuming he continues to play well.

With all of our you dmen coming up I think he could be a nice trade for a top 6 forward and the we still have a top four D making less in Proverov and a top 6 forward in exchange. IMO Morin makes the team also
