Stolen from my ride home last night on local radio, but i thought it deserved notice here.

When we all watched the pats comeback Sunday, us pats fans kinda felt it would happen. Just the way things broke. dropped INT, fumble recovery, etc...

According to PFR, this is what the comparison looks like between Brady and Rodgers, in games decided by 7 pts or less (regular season)...

Brady:

95 games
66-29 record (wins about every 2 out of 3)
then you get to the stats...
62.7% completion
158 TD/82 INT
89.6 rating
196 sacks (.48 per game)

Rodgers:

59 games
31-28 record (lets call it barely .500)
then you get to the stats...
62.9% completion
112 TD's/36 INT (thats awesome)
97.3 rating
165 sacks (.35 per game)

so, brady wins a lot more...a lot more...but performs at a lesser level than rodgers. rodgers, for how mobile he is, still gets sacked at a similar rate in these circumstances.

in general, when down, rodgers is a 98.3 rating guy. brady when trailing?

90.9

a lot of food for thought...

I feel a kinship when we listen to the same things on the radio.

what was the part about rodgers 0-3 in the playoffs in those scenarios...because he never got the ball.

i know bradys record was ridiculous, but its because he got the ball.

Outside the sacks per game rating being wrong, we see the same thing as their all-round stats. Brady wins, Rodgers has better stats

Splitting hairs regarding two of the greatest QBs to ever put on pads. Both are legendary magicians. No comparisons are needed, just sit back and watch the show.

Generally, 1 score games are fairly random just by their close nature; ergo you should expect them to be around .500. At best Brady is an outlier. I guess that predisposes me to like Rodgers more in this comp, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I found it fascinating.

bradys w/l is ridiculous in those circumstances. he tends to get lucky...but how many times before its not luck any more?

That'd be the riddle everyone is trying to crack I'd think. He's obviously an outlier. But... what kind of outlier? Just a weird fluke? A confluence? A very rare skillset? Lots of questions to ask given the sample size.

sunday...a fumble gets recovered by the guard. a pick at the 3, dropped.

this happens nearly every time. he gets lucky and survives. over and over. then wins.

its why honestly i expected brady to win that sunday when he got the ball. rodgers...i wasnt so sure of. the metrics back it up.

I give Brady the QB edge because he doesn't do the "championship belt" move or the "Shooter McGavin" move.

I think it just proves Belichick > McCarthy. Billy knows how to make sure his team is well-rounded enough to win the close ones. Unless he's coaching against Denver. Then he just sucks.
