I think it was a good and fair interview on both parts. Rumor was that Gruden wanted Smith. Knowing they were not going to sign or Cousin's wasn't going to sign whichever view point you have I think they made the best move without trying to draft a starting QB.

I have thought Dunbar was going to play a bigger part this year when they resigned him. It will be interesting to see how big a part.

I am a fan, I am going to hope for the best just like I do every year.

You know, to a degree I can see as to where Jay would want Smith if it was determined that Cousins would not be back. Now Im not buying the line that he wanted Smith out right. But I could see something like, Jay we are moving on from Kirk... we can go after Smith, Bridgewater, etc, etc,etc or draft a rookie. Given those choices, what would be your preference??

Fair enough, but I can also see a scenario where Jay, after his very public proclamation that he didn't want another year of Kirk tagged, goes to the front office guys and say, "OK, Kirk is not worth what he's going to command on an open market, or you guys are willing to pay for him, of all the guys who we can get, this guy is my choice. "

That conversation might have happened. I think we were all tired of the 1 year tags. I was tired of rehashing the story over and over. I was tired that the team wouldn't commit to a guy that did more than his fair share. As it says in the good book "it is done." On to the next guy.

The question in my mind now is are with Eagles who acquired Norm Snead or the Redskins who acquired Sonny Jurgensen. There is only one way to find out .... play the games.

Amen to that - this has been my whole pt all along. I 100% wanted them to extend Cousins, but at a certain pt it became obvious - for better or worse - that they were not going in that direction. After that pt I just want to see the team do as well as possible.

We really have no idea how Smith will do with the Skins for the next few seasons. I love people on this forum who boldly proclaim that Smith will suck or be very mediocre & the team will be awful. They claim that they know this almost for a fact. No you don't! None of us truly know how this will unfold given the various unknowns like Smith, new draft picks, return of Allen, injuries, etc. Just because some folks are confident doesn't mean they are correct. Confidence should never be confused with knowledge or accuracy.

We will see - HTTR.

Totally Agree...however, there was at least one poster here who reached the conclusion that Kirk's time here was limited long before others came to that conclusion. When you have posters who are determined to remind others of their hard line approach with Kirk whenever Smith fails to meet arbitrary goals that they believe Kirk might have, seems to be considered fair play on this forum.

That's fine with me, if reminders are the game.

I do want to remind some of these same posters that, the guy who reached the Kirk conclusion long before they came to realize it, is now in position to give them the same shit that they gave him at the time. In fact, please don't tell me how right you or they had it from the beginning, when in fact that position was just another case of too little too late. I said in 2015, 2016 and 2017 that this organization should (must) trade Kirk again against a wave of shit thrown about by those holding out hope that something would be worked out. Now it's "see (insert poster's name) told you how badly this team would fuck up the whole thing." Too little too late.
