Better division record. Settling HFA in some exhibition game is dumb. I actually prefer the previous system over this trash. Just alternate every other year if you don't want to use best record.

Yes, so they need to have a list and you just go down the list. Maybe you have a single factor decide or you could use the whole list and do some formula involving multiple factors to decide.

Also it's probably extremely rare to have both WS teams enter with the same record so we might be thinking too much.

The Pirates play EVERY NL team through out the season. So no matter who is on the As inter league schedule.....the Pirates would have played them. And so forth...

But honestly I don't think that's a fair way to determine it, one team could play common opponents 18 teams time and the other team could play 60+ games.
