the 2nd rounds pick make it more inciting but no, i think if you guys would have stayed with Smith last year you might have won the SB. I'm not a Kap fan, to me he is just a faster Tim Tebow.

I like Kaep, but no dog in this fight...still your point in bold there is very BOLD, you're comparing a starting NFL QB to a guy that literally can't get a job as a 3rd stringer in the NFL playing QB.

Did you think that before Harbaugh got there? FWIW I don't think he's a bad QB at all...I haven't seen enough good in elimination games to say you can win a SB with him.

He played pretty damn good Against the saints in the playoffs two years ago. I would say in that game, he picked up the 49ers and carried them on his shoulders to a win. Of course the following week the passing game was horrible but we were pretty banged up.

And no, I didn't think he was one of the best QB's until harbaugh got here, but I see him doing the same thing in KC with good coaches there.

Its not like Bree's, Brady, Peyton, etc... have overcome bad coaching... they all have some of the best coaches in the league. I would say that flourishing under excellent coaching is more a sign of greatness than not.

When was the last time Alex Smith had a 400 yard passing game? Or rushed for over 100 yards? Or made it to a super bowl? Or won an NFC Championship game? Sorry man, but as much as I respect Smith, kaepernick's upside and talent level are so far above Smiths its not even funny. Smith took 7 years to develop into a viable QB... Kaepernick was winning NFC Championships on his 10th NFL start.

Didn't Smith take the 49er to The NFCCG and orchestrated a great comeback only win to get SF to the game?

I think the coaching ( and some shitty teams period) set him up to fail until Harbaugh and now Reid came along.

Although I liked Nolan as a coach and liked Singletary as a player, SF made some bad hires, but I thought Smith was ready to take the helm in Singletary's last year, but he had a terrible season and was really on the scrap heap when Harbaugh took over.

That's why I said I haven't seen enough.

I could be wrong, but I feel like that negative experience in SF before Harbaugh has Smith in a mindset of making sure he doesn't lose the game. Nothing really wrong with that mindset, but I'm curious as to how this year plays out.

Being flashy and passing is a way to sell tickets. Running the Ball and Defense will always be a superior method in winning a SB, even in todays extremely pro pass rules.

That's true...two SB champions used that formula...I think it still works, but the margin for error is much greater if you get behind.

Alex Smith is one of the best QB's in this league. It really doesn't matter what he does, some will never acknowledge this. But all he does is win and overcome adversity and people who don't give him credit are in pure denial.

As I often have to do, I apologize on behalf of 49er fans for how absolutely stupid this post is.

Alex Smith is the definition of a game manager. He throws to the RBs & TEs & doesn't throw many picks. That's who he is. He would've been perfect for the 2000 Ravens.

Alex is 29th in the NFL in yards per attempt. He's 22nd in the league in passer rating at 79.3. And his opponents this year are a combined 15-32. "One of the best QBs in the league"??? No other quote will prove one's inability to understand the game of football than that one.

You can pretty much ignore / dismiss anything else Breaker might say about football from now on.

... Im left handed, QB throwing motions look weird to me all the time, but none were as bizarre and flawed as Tebow despite being left handed, but that is just me I guess.

No, it isn't. Everyone who's seen Tebow play know his throwing mechanics are AWFUL...
