Have we reached the point yet where we can stop calling him a game manager?? Guy is 24-5-1 in his last 30 starts ( best record in the NFL in that span ) and he took over a team that won 2 games last year and has them at 7-0. I wont ask SF fans because they obviously cant have a unskewed opinion on this but have we finally gotten to the point where we can call Smith a top 10 QB without being run out of town for it?? Whole goal is to win right?? Guy does it better than anyone over the last 3 years.

no he is a game manager, and i'd personally would rather have a game manager than some of these gunslingers that everyone thinks are so much better.

Nothing wrong with being a "game manager". Most of the best QBs in the league simply manage the game until they see an opportunity to exploit the defense.

But you need to be able to make every throw at any time in a game in order to do that.

Agreed with this - Alex Smith is a better QB than the Jay Cutler types who sling the ball all over the field - the key is that at any point you have to make a key throw, you need to do it - actually Alex has proven in the past that he can do that - his drive against the Saints in the playoffs was amazing and if it wasn't for the fumbles against the Giants in the NFC Championship game he'd probably been in the SB

Yeah, I know about all the HC and OCs he had, but people don't realize this guy was one more year away from being a backup in SF, or out of SF. He was a turnover machine until Harbaugh reeled him in.

In a nutshell, Smith has now developed into a solid QB that can make some plays, but you don't want to ride his arm. The formula for success in KC is very similar to what he had in SF...sound running game, keep 3rd and manageable, stout DEF, don't turn it over.

I would argue that there are few qbs who can legitimately manage a game, it is no surprise to see the so called "game managers" be replaced in nothing flat. Too often "game manager" is code for he can't make a throw when you need it, he'll throw INT's quite often, and quite frankly, is a bum.

Alex Smith has been one of the most unlucky players in NFL history going through so many different coaches. He has always had the talent. Just could never get it going because of running different systems, being on bad offenses, etc. Until the past few years of course. He's turning into what people thought he should've been a long time ago. Very happy for him. He deserves to win after all he's been through.

Alex Smith is one of the best QB's in this league. It really doesn't matter what he does, some will never acknowledge this. But all he does is win and overcome adversity and people who don't give him credit are in pure denial.

Tell that to your coach/GM/owner/idiots that got rid of him and kept Kap.

You wouldn't rather have Kaepernick and two 2nd round draft picks?

If thats the case, I don't think you should be calling anyone else an idiot. Just because it made more sense for the niners to move forward with Kaepernick for a variety of reasons.... doesn't mean Smith isn't a very good QB.

the 2nd rounds pick make it more inciting but no, i think if you guys would have stayed with Smith last year you might have won the SB. I'm not a Kap fan, to me he is just a faster Tim Tebow.

Kaepernick's bad habits in the passing game are not even remotely close to how hopelessly flawed Tebow's mechanics are.

When was the last time Alex Smith had a 400 yard passing game? Or rushed for over 100 yards? Or made it to a super bowl? Or won an NFC Championship game? Sorry man, but as much as I respect Smith, kaepernick's upside and talent level are so far above Smiths its not even funny. Smith took 7 years to develop into a viable QB... Kaepernick was winning NFC Championships on his 10th NFL start.

Tebow just look funny because he is left handed.

... Im left handed, QB throwing motions look weird to me all the time, but none were as bizarre and flawed as Tebow despite being left handed, but that is just me I guess.

Did you think that before Harbaugh got there? FWIW I don't think he's a bad QB at all...I haven't seen enough good in elimination games to say you can win a SB with him.

I think the coaching ( and some shitty teams period) set him up to fail until Harbaugh and now Reid came along.
