Ovi was, is, and always be a tank. It is exactly because of his body type that he has been able to sustain the success he has, playing in the style that he does, and be productive.

Maybe he wasn't in the best condition those three years when he hit 30 goals instead of 40+. Maybe he started taking better care of himself after that.

Lord knows that some of his "training" routines are fairly legendary among Caps fans: soda in the water bottle, chicken parm before games, etc.

In any case, Ovi being Ovi is absolutely awesome for the NHL, and not just because I'm incredibly biased.

Cmon now, he was a great one who at one point fell off a cliff

Now , was it a hidden injury, alcohol something that made him half the player

They would put the camera on the guy sittin on bench , not interactin with anyone

That season which was at least 10 -15 years ago when roids were rampant in baseball, he puts in 35 lbs of muscle

Do I really need to go further, who’s his uncle , grandpa from the munsters who came up with the magic formula?
Yeah, one of those "fell of the cliff" years he had 85 points. Guess I am not seeing any washed up evidence that you see. I am also not so amazed or suspicious that a 25 year old player could gain or lose lots of weight.

But please, with absence of any evidence whatsoever, just assume he was cheated. And keep pretending to be objective.

Sad you think I’m makin the story up

You’re in serious denial if you don’t recall him puttin on 35 lbs of muscle in 3 months , the whole league was talkin about it at the time.

It didnt blow up cause everyone was caught up in the baseball roid scandal !

OV could be, not sayin I’m 100 % sure of it, but Roger Clemens , a very similar comeback in his career, and he clearly did roids

As I said , if he did it clean . He deserves all that’s coming his way. But it sure seems suspicious that in his prime , he avg 20 less goals a year , then , well you know the rest.

That is very fair

However, he did put on 35 lbs of muscle in just 3 months, and that came out of Joe Michelletti’s mouth, not mine, during a Rangers game!

I find that an impossible task to do that legitimately.

So I guess he fell off a cliff his 6th through 8th seasons? Or is the the COVID season where he had his only season with less than 30 goals?

Odd take bud

The 35 lbs of muscle in 3 months seems exaggerated, sure.

There is a perfectly good reason why Ovi’s point totals dipped diring those three years of 30 goals instead of hovering around 50:

Ovi wasnt much of a complete player then, didnt work hard on both ends, and was subbed out quite a bit when Bruce Budreau was fired (an offensive minded coach) and Dale Hunter was brought in ( a defensive minded coach).

This year, the Caps coach remains Spencer Carberry, who is having a heckuva year coaching up the team, built with plenty of complimentary parts: Chychrun, Mangiopane, Roy, Logan Thompson, and even Vrana are contributing very nicely to a team that also has developed McMichael into being a legitimate scoring and play making threat.

With the pressure off of Ovi, he’s able to create more, occupy space near the goal crease more, and that leads to scoring more.

Just because Joe Michelletti says it dones't make it true. Nobody is packing on 35 lbs in 3 months unless they are a Grizzly bear, PEDS or not.

OV came into the league as an insanely strong player. If anything he got fat at times and was not muscular enough. He's good enough to get away with it though.

Michelletti was complimenting OV for his vigorous training that off season…

Don’t think he exaggerated the 35lbs of muscle.

And, there are roids that don’t make you look stronger, HGH, they claim enhance recovery from injury. We know it does more than that .

Win in the bank makes more sense than the turn this thread took.

You know, when he was washed up with only 85 points. Lol

I wonder how Michelletti weighed OV. Did he weigh himself then pick up OV and get back on the scale? Or did he trick him by placing a slice of Washington style pizza on the scale.

I was wondering if those down years coincided with Dale Hunter but I didn’t care enough to look it up

Good context

Ahhhhhhh. You know Michelletti interviews players

Highly doubt he’d make a claim without knowin facts

Bottom line is every athlete in whatever sport at that time, steroids were rampant

You don't need roids, or 35 lbs of muscle, to score empty netters, amirite?

35 lbs of crab cakes > Sid >>>>>>>>>>>> Alex Ovenchicken.
