Al Wilson is the Don Mattingly of the Denver Broncos. An all time great who happened to play in between Super Bowl runs as he was drafted in the first draft class after John Elway retired with two Super Bowl championships. He had to play in the Shanahan era when Jake Plummer (or is it Jay?) was trying as hard as he could to be Mike Shanahan's robot.
If a fan loved any player in that period - it was very likely Al Wilson - just a side line to side line pleasure to watch on every play.
Feel for the guy but at the same time I do think his blame is misplaced. He tried to sue the team doctor who told him he didn't need neck surgery and the courts sided with the doctor that he had done nothing wrong. Yes another doctor disagreed with him but sometimes there are multiple ways of handling a situation. Heck last year I tore my Achilles playing soccer. It wasn't a huge tear so they decided to stick me in a walking boot instead of getting surgery. Honestly now I wish they would have went the surgery route as it still bothers me in the mornings when I get up and have to stretch it out just to walk without pain but again just shows an injury can be healed multiple ways.
Still though one of my favorite players to watch since our Super Bowl years in the 90's. Wish he could have stayed healthy because he was on the verge of being an all-time great for the Broncos.
