Not sure if that's Rivers Cuomo or Corky from Life Goes On, either way....

Suck it Omar!

(I just go thru "upload a file" with screen shots. Same as any pic. Via my oldass IPhone.)
It's my friend from Best Buddies. He's now crying after I showed him your post (I don't know why I showed him it, honestly- me and you are both to blame)

I love Trout but werent most of you guys on the other side of the spectrum when Goldy finished 2nd because his team didn't make the playoffs? He clearly was deserving that season, as Trout is this year, but MVP pretty much always goes to the most valuable player on a playoff team. Just how it goes.

I did not realize how good of a season trout was having... I don't like giving it to a non playoff team, but I actually don't think anyone is even close to trout this season... the kicker is that he is on a team that scored less than all the other teams of other MVP candidates by a pretty significant amount...

McCutchen had an 8.1 WAR the year he won MVP (compared to Goldschmidt's 7.1) with a 157 OPS+ at a premium position...let's not act like he won it simply because his team made the playoffs.

McCutchen had comparable batting stats to Goldy in 2013 and played a much tougher position than him. Unless you're talking about last year, when Harper was a superior hitter.

I couldn't care less about how their teams are doing. I think MVP should go to the guy that's adding the most value to their team period, even if they're providing value to a last place team.

I love me some Mookie Betts but I don't see any argument for him over Trout, especially if you're ignoring their teams performances. That being said, who would have thought Mookie Betts would become an elite player? He was *not* considered a power hitter at all when they first drafted him. He batted .267/.352/.307 with only 9 XBH (0 home runs) in 71 games in Lowell. And then he batted .314/.417/.506 between A and A+ ball with 55 extra base hits, 15 of those being home runs. Salem isn't an easy place to hit home runs either. The next year in 2014, he batted .346/.431/.529 with 46 XBH (11 home runs) between AA and AAA before being promoted to Boston. He's a career .302/.352/.505 hitter in the majors with 158 XBH (53 home runs).

I don't expect him to be a regular 30+ HR guy, but he's someone I can easily see flirting with 50 doubles and 10 triples.

I have Mookie & Bryant on my fantasy team and they went 160-63 this year so just back off.

Trout is on the last place team in that league, clearly he's a loser! :dhd:

Yeah, last time a player from a non-playoff team won the AL MVP was Alex Rodriguez in 2003. The Rangers finished in last place in the A.L. West that year.

the gap between A-Rod and the rest of the AL field was huge that year. I know WAR isn't a be all end all stat (especially when there's several versions), but Trout has a 1.5 win advantage over the closest guy (Betts) whether you're looking at Fangraphs' version or BB-Ref's.

I am just so enamored with Trout at this point that I'm angry that anyone would choose anyone besides him, and if they WERE from the "playoff" camp, Donaldson is a much better choice, IMO. Trout is basically the fourth member to the Trinity to me at this point (which wouldn't make it a Trinity, but whatever)

If Buxton hits exactly like he has the last 7 games.

Not only will he win the next 15 MVPs, but he will be the first unanimous hall of famer.

So, let's give him it this year as well.

I will add this, playing half your games in fenway's RF should count as half a season of CF defense considering the size and complexity of Fenway's RF.

In all seriousness, it's nice to see him doing well right now. Hopefully he's finally got things figured out. I'd hate to see any young player struggle, especially a highly touted one like Buxton.

I'm not going to go into detail because Stan and navamind already did, but McCutchen didn't beat out Goldschmidt for the 2013 MVP because he was on a playoff team. Goldschmidt had a fantastic season, but McCutchen's was better.

Minnesota is the last place team in the AL. The Angels aren't even in last place in the AL West; that's the A's.

You know, there are places on the internets that you can look this stuff up.

Yup really hoping this time is the charm. Still striking out a bit but he's had some great 2 strike ABs and has leveled out the swing for more power and less shitty pop ups. And of course he always has be speed.

Long way to go but it would be great if he can find his way as a Betts/Trout type. Obviously not their stats forsure but well rounded game similar to them.
