Jay Bruce was always a shitty option for this team. We all diagnosed it right when it happened. Odor is terrible, too, though. I’m not fooled by his “hot” start. He’s fairly useless.

Is he the Yankees JBJ?

On this day in 1978, Yankees give out the brand new Reggie! bar as a promotion. Reggie hits a 3 run bomb in the first inning and approximately 45 thousand Reggie! bars come flying out of the stands and cover the field.

Best line of the day came from Catfish Hunter. "When you open one, it tells you how good it is."

Gleyber for Story and Marquez needs to happen right away
I see you’ve upped the return on Gleyber? I doubt you are getting Marquez, but I think you are wise to focus on a pitcher. Other than Cole, you don’t seem to have anyone that can give you even 4 innings per start. Unless you have 10 Scott Proctors in that bullpen that can work every day, it’s going to get ugly.

That rotation is Gerrit Cole and pray for rain.

Taillon could not throw the fastball for strikes last night, and his breaking stuff was less than impressive. I still don't quite understand the acquisition of him and Kluber when even if they were both lights out, they were going to be extremely limited in how much they could actually pitch. And they let a guy who's averaged 180 innings per season just walk. Didn't make sense then, doesn't make sense now. They were always going to have to piece together a full season of adequate starting pitching.

Lots of talent in that rotation, I dis-agree

basing a ton off of 2 or even 1 start from some of these guys

I read they are targeting late July for him. Chris Sale probably around the same timeframe, too. You can hope to get about 2 months from them ideally.

Severino much sooner
Had his surgery much sooner too

Good ppints, I still think the lineup is the problem

you look across the AL East, and tell me who isn’t faced with the same starting pitching questions?

Blue Jays rely on RYu and some questions

Tampa has 1 starter and a bunch of “openers”

The Red Sox are excited now about Martin Perez, Nick Pivetta and Garrett Richards, and a bullpen full of former failures. that’s the most April 14th talk ever

and the Os

the difference for this Yankee team is supposed to be the ability to crush opponents offensively and win the BP game
The BP is awesome, the lineup blows

I agree there is plenty of talent, but just a shortage of guys who can work deep into games. We discussed Kluber and Taillon quite a bit before the season as guys who have barely pitched at all. Even the most optimistic projections only figured about 100 innings from each.

Montgomery just had his arm rebuilt, too. He’s not a guy that has thrown a lot of innings over the last several years, either. I just don’t see where the innings will come from for the starters beyond Cole. Having a lot of depth doesn’t necessarily solve this issue.

They're gonna hit, I'm really not too worried about that.

Way more concerned about the quality of the starting pitching they're throwing out there every day-and how long before these 4 inning starts start to have a detrimental effect on the bullpen?

LOL. Who has shown any “excitement” for Perez, Pivetta or Richards? They ARE much better with Erod back(and Sale eventually), though. A year ago, Perez was the #2 starter. Now he’s the #4 or #5.

Their bullpen is MUCH better this year. I think you will be surprised by what they have out there this year. I’m not sold on Ottavino(too many baserunners), but Barnes has been untouchable. Bullpens are always strange to calculate. Having a bunch of household names doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Agreed. If Stanton & Judge can stay on the field, they are too good historically to produce such limited results. Same with Torres(unless he’s suddenly lost it). DJ has been great since they signed him. There ARE some question marks in there(Sanchez, Hicks, Frazier), but I think they will hit just fine. Getting Voit back should help, too. He’s supposed to be a few weeks away.

we will see

Martin Perez is the 4th starter only because Garrett Richards and Nick Pivetta were inserted ahead of him, which will eventually feel like you have 3 Martin Perez’

talk to me in a month about Matt Barnes

Stanton swings a bat like he doesn’t know how to play baseball

how that guy won an MVP is beyond me
