6-17 record with the usual double digit strikeouts and no runs scored

Another wasted great start by an Orioles pitcher (2-1 loss).
Starting pitching has not been an issue.

It is the Buck Showalter lack of punishment for his free swinging team.
Why the hell is Buck still playing all the veterans. Call up the kids and clean house for whatever you can get.

AAA guys and future players can score 1 run at half the cost.
It does zero good to have a bunch of older players scoring zero runs all the time.
I really wish we had started this process last year during the trade deadline. This team can't get out of it's own way this year. When we get good pitching, the offense goes cold. When the offense actually does score runs, the pitching turns to crap.
I hope that we can trade as many veterans as possible and have a massive overhaul this offseason with both Buck and Dumpster Dan being shown the door. Buck will unfortunately live and die with his favorites and will cover for them at all costs. Just look at what it took for Kim to crack the starting lineup for more than once a week a couple of years ago.
As for Coolbaugh, I don't understand how in the hell this guy has kept his job. This offense has no patience at all and relies way too much on the long ball and it's been that way for way too long.

walker's coming off a 111 OPS+ in 2017 and has been an above average hitter in pretty much every year of his career. Tyler Austin has had 61 good plate appearances and was a fringe prospect. I think you're overreacting to a 15 game sample size.

Neil has a 112 OPS+ for his career and a 29 OPS+ for this year so far. Why would you stay with someone that was brought in as a stopgap when he has started off with the worst numbers of his career? Hoping he goes back to the norm?

I'd rather take a chance on Tyler Austin as well over the corpse of Neil Walker......I'm not sure I need to watch awful at bats from a 32 year old player on the downside of his career....

Yankees are not going to go by what Walker did in the past when they make this decision. Bird isn't supposed to come back until mid to late May so they'll have 1.5 months of baseball to go by.

You think if Walker is still playing like this in Mid May, they're going to care about what he did previously in his career?

I loved the signing based on how I thought he'd thrive at Yankee Stadium. To this point he's been a pretty big disappointment. I really liked what I saw out of Drury while he was active, and if that was with chronic migraines and diminished vision, one can only imagine how good he might be without those issues.

Regardless, they didn't call up Torres to sit, so there's going to be some releases when Drury/Frazier/Bird/Ellsbury are back.

Hard to see having too many good players as a bad thing.

Is Frazier def joining the big league club when he's clear to play?

Depends on who's activated first between him and Ellsbury, I would imagine. Ellsbury's $20M+ a year virtually guarantees he'll be on the roster unfortunately.

The problem for Cole during his career has been that he has a tough time locating the strike zone on a consistent basis. His walk rate went up last season from 3.3 in 2016 to 4.7. When you add that to the fact that he doesn’t record many strikeouts (7.6 per nine innings last year), that can bring up a lot of long innings.

When you look at Cole’s arsenal, he has four pitches. He has a fastball that averages 92.1 miles-per-hour (according to FanGraphs) as well as a slider, curveball, and changeup. The key for the Yankees might be to have him use the curveball a little less and to go with the slider. According to Brooks Baseball, teams had a .196 average against that pitch last year with 16 strikeouts and three extra-base hits (one home run).

This guy appears to be decidedly mediocre. Here's hoping for the good ol' pinstripe bump.
