I think he cinched that he's not pitching the 9th inning anymore. He was doing just fine in the 8th with Weaver closing. No need to mess with success, but Boone gonna Boone

Gotta be pleased with Rodon finally becoming that elite starter we though we got 3 years ago

Weaver wasn’t available last night so made sense to go to Williams

this is what happens when u only let your starters go 4 ip:suds:

this is why I absolutely loathe today's pitcher usage. Is having a good bullpen may be more efficient than having a starter go 3+ times through the order? Sure. But if you have to lean on that bullpen to go 4+ innings almost every night, they're going to get tired. That, or you need to have multiple relievers who can go 2+ innings when necessary. Feels like a mix of starters struggling to go 3+ times through the order, but it doesn't feel like they're getting many opportunities to prove they can do it either.

It'd be nice if Kutter would start his rehab assignment soon...

The Red Sox bullpen is an absolute disaster, other than Chapman.

Not scoring runs is also killing them...

And you know something is wrong when you're wishing for Kutter Crawford...

The starters aren't much better, past Crochet and Buehler. Bello is a walk machine, Houck flat out sucks. Giolito might help but he hasn't pitched sine the Reagan Administration.

Meanwhile, Nick Pivetta is 5-2 with a 1.012 WHIP. Could the Red Sox have back to back seasons where they dumped the NL Cy Young winner?

Can't remember the last time they swept in Anaheim. Used to be the other way around on the regular.

Nice head of steam heading into the WS rematch

The annoying thing about this ineptitude is that the AL East aside from the Yanks looks so meh. Rays are 28-27 but they have a team OPS+ of 98. They have a team ERA+ of 109, but they're outperforming their FIP (by almost a full run) and xFIP. Toronto just seems like a crappier version of the Rays. Not much needs to be said about Baltimore.
