He's a good teammate, and really well liked in the clubhouse., Offensively he has spurts, but those spurts get shorter and shorter.

And he's known as a defensive OF, but I can never stop seeing him fall down chasing that ball in Baltimore last year.

He'll get picked up by somebody

Verdugo was disciplined numerous times in Boston for showing up late and being lazy... But, he could still provide value to many teams...

I love his trades back-story. He was acquired by Boston with Conner Wong (and Jeter Downs) in a salary-dump trade for David Price and Mookie Betts (!)...

He was sent to NY for Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert, & Nicholas Judice. Weissert should be an important middle reliever this year - and Fitts has the inside track to be Boston's fifth starter to start the season (10.2 IP, 13K, 1.03 WHIP, 0.84 ERA)...

He was beyond worthless and the end of the season last year…..made a few good plays in the OF, but his value is circling the bowl…..
I’m not sure why, but I can’t recall a member of the Red Sox I disliked more when he was on the team than Verdugo. I hated the way he looked, the way he loafed around, but I especially hated the whole “Dugie” persona.

He’s good enough to be on a roster somewhere, for sure. But that .8 WAR in 149 games last year is a hard sell. 4 straight years of declining OPS+ doesn’t help, either.

Update: “Last season, Verdugo made $8.7 million. A league source told The Athletic that the 28-year-old hasn’t received a single major-league offer since becoming a free agent.”

That’s crazy.
