I wonder how that works if another team picks him up at the minimum and he hits the PA. Who would pay?

That's not how it works. He's guaranteed $22M this year, and his contract says if he gets 302 more PA this year, next years' $22M option kicks in. It appears a team could really stick it to the Sox by picking him up at the minimum and playing him everyday.

In most likely scenario in which no team makes waiver claim for or trades for Ramirez, #Redsox will release him in 7 days and at that point the 2019 vesting option goes away for any team signing a NEW contract with him for the pro-rated minimum.


So he's still paid by the Sox for this year (minus the minimum), but the option is dead with a release (which isn't spelled out on Cot's)

That would give the mets 2 players being paid 43 mil by other teams ( agon gets 21 mil from braves) players must love this its like getting a half mil bonus for stinking up the joint
