Gerrit Cole (elbow) is expected to miss at least 1-2 months with an elbow injury, according to New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
According to Heyman, the defending AL Cy Young will head to Los Angeles for an appointment with Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Cole will need to, at the very least, allow swelling and inflammation to subside before he can get back to pitching. The initial readings were optimistic with MRI scans not showing a tear in his UCL, but with the recommendation from Dr. ElAttrache for more testing, the level of concern has heightened for the Yankees and Cole. Given the 33-year-old ace’s absence, the Yankees have reportedly been in talks with the White Sox for Dylan Cease, but at this time, Marcus Stroman would likely be the starter for Opening Day.
