man was he razor sharp. He might have his best year yet..

he said he was hurt last year. that injury affected his game. so even when he was hurt..he still was a cy young runner up.

razor sharp I say!!! who was it that said he was washed up??????
cy young and another MVP???? how many pitchers have ever done that???
Justin Verlander....the ACE of all of MLB!!

Tiger manager Ausmus has already said. Verlander will start opening day for the Detroit Tigers.
Verlanders 7 straight opening day start.

!st time a Cy Young winner has not starting for his club..Max Scherzer..sinde 2005 when Brad Radke started over Santana for the Twins.

Verlander who has been razor sharp this spring..
8 2/3 innings 0 runs. only 2 hits allowed..6 Ks.

he is on a mission this year boys..for a ring. better pick him over any pitcher in fantasy leagues.

bad news. annibal sanchez has a sore shoulder. he skipped his start.
Tigers are down playing his injury.. don't sound good.
Losing Fister is looking even bigger now.

sanchez dealt with this last year. dam!

I suspect it is just the Tigers being conservative since it is ST. If I recall, Verlander and Scherzer had a similar "issue" last year. Infante and Escobar having the same "issue" in KC right now. I wouldn't sweat it unless it persists into next week.

with that big contract. The Tigers will be carefull with him.

some times a pitcher only has so many throw in that shoulder.
hope he rebounds. no sense rushing him back. iam sure tigers will be snart about it

That's always scary though when you hear about shoulders and pitchers in the same sentence.

From MLBTR:

AL Central Notes: Iglesias, Ventura, Twins

By Jeff Todd [March 17, 2014 at 9:44pm CST]
Here's the latest from the A.L. Central:

  • While the picture remains somewhat unclear, it seems apparent that the Tigers are preparing to deal with life without young shortstop Jose Iglesias for some time. The club made an inquiry with the Diamondbacks about shortstop Chris Owings, [ame="[MEDIA=twitter]445636757011578880[/MEDIA]"]tweets[/ame] Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, but the discussions were not fruitful.
  • Of course, one obvious possibility involves the signing of free agent Stephen Drew, which seems not to be the club's first option. While there is a seeming fit -- Drew is a solid veteran, the Tigers are a win-now club -- some pundits agree with Detroit's inclination to look internally while exploring the trade market. Dave Cameron of Fangraphs, for example, argues that Detroit is better off patching things over to start the year and evaluating as time goes on. The performance of the fill-ins, recovery of Iglesias, and developments in the market could all lead to solutions and increase clarity, and Cameron says the team is likely good enough to absorb some performance decline in the meantime.
  • The Royals are expected to tab prospect Yordano Ventura to open the season in the rotation, [ame="[MEDIA=twitter]445738282702213120[/MEDIA]"]tweets[/ame] Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star. The 22-year-old has backed up his billing as one of the game's top pitching prospects with a stellar spring. Of course, if Ventura breaks camp on the active roster, the Royals will lose the chance to delay his service clock and retain control for an additional season.
  • There is an increasing sense of urgency in Minnesota with ticket sales lagging, and the Twins will be aggressive with roster changes if need be in the early going, reports ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Insider piece). The club already spent the sixth-most cash in the game through free agency, and Olney says it may be willing to move up some high-end talent if it struggles out of the gate. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire admitted today that he was intrigued by the possibility of utilizing the towering Alex Meyer out of the pen for his first taste of MLB action, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Classic dougie...

MITCH THE SPARTY KILLER?

Hes 1-1 vs sparty.....

Hes avereaged 4 pts and 7.5 rbds....

THATS 8 TOTAL POINTS HE HAS SCORED ON SPARTY IN HIS CAREER...

Not to mention how many times dackich mentioned how shook he looked at the game in e lansing when scUM was down 31 before izzo put the walk ons in. He might of had a nice 6 game stretch in the tourney last year playing with the best PG/player in the nation.....but hes hardly a sparty killer....mr payne outplayed him both times.

One year mcgoofy might have a complete year....but hes already pushing 30..:laugh3:

And sparty didnt squeak by....we were up from start to finish.....easily....scUM has no answer for dawson....too athletic..

No, Verlander was Cy runner-up in 2012. He wasn't even close in 2013.

But I said it elsewhere: Scherzer had a monster season that he'll never duplicate, and Sanchez has never had anything near a 2.57 ERA in his career. When JV got his mechanics right in September and into the playoffs last season, there was nobody better. 1 ER in 23 post-season innings with 31 Ks. Ridiculous. He's done it multiple years and is still the Tigers' ace BY FAR.

Yes, I'd agree the Tigers are just taking no chances with Anibal, because he had that injury last year, too. Scherzer had some shoulder issues near the end of 2012, but he was fine last season.

Sparty took a comfortable lead after about 8 or 9 minutes and never looked back. Won by 14. I've felt that Payne and Harris are MSU's best players, but Dawson is a difference maker out there. Much moreso than McGary is for Ol' Blue.

I don't think Michigan would have had anywhere near the success with McGary that they ha without him this season. Morgan and Horford stay within themselves. The low low turnovers wouldn't have been the same atleast. Still hope he's back next year to take Morgans starting spot though.

first of all..you are wrong.
as I said in other places as well...

Max Scherzer will have another great year. he also is razor sharp this spring.
how you figure he will not even be close to last years numbers...please explain!

scherzer is a good pitcher. and he can throw about as hard as any body in the league.

tell us why you think he wont have a good year... pleaseeeeeee.
I want to hear this fuzzy logic
