I have heard they will only announce the names of the players who agree to the suspensions.

Anyone that appeals will not be named.

Sounds like A-Rod and his people have come to their senses and are negotiating the terms of his suspension now.

Sucks. I wanted to see Selig make like Mountain Landis.

To be like Landis, Selig would have to do something like keep Asian ballplayers out of the Majors.

I swear they drag these things out for no other reason that ratings, internet hits etc....I can't decide where the real interest lies, protecting the integrity of MLB or making as much $$$ as possible from the stories themselves.

I've said this all along: The biggest liars/hypocrites in this entire scandal are the writers and media.

They knew what was going on the entire time. They were in the locker rooms every day. They were at Spring Training every March. They had their little snickers and jokes and sideways glances, but they never said a thing because they didn't want to jeopardize their inside connections and their relationship with the players. The few writers who did speak out were ostracized, such as Richard Justice (I believe) when he confronted Mark McGwire about his use of andro. They all protected this secret (which wasn't much of a secret because most fans knew as well).

A sports writer's role in the grand scheme is to act as the conduit between the players and the fans. It is their job to report objectively and truthfully. It was their job to report on this issue, if in fact it was an important issue. They failed miserably. Only when they realized how much money could be made off the "scandal" did they turn it into one. The book deals, blog hits and daily columns flowed like wine. They're still suckling at the steroid teet, even though most people are sick of hearing about it, and even though it's really not a big deal at the end of the day. They also ignore the "issue" in other sports because they know the fans won't respond the way they will in baseball due to the sanctity of the statistics. They don't bother to mention the NFL, which has rampant, widespread PED use which is practically league-endorsed. They won't mention it because the fans don't care about the players or the statistics. They only care about the laundry and seeing their team win.

And now, as voters for the Hall of Fame, they get to sit in judgment of behavior they were accomplices to. It's downright disgusting.

Or basketball....

The general sports populace doesn't really care all that much about PEDs in football or basketball. Baseball has numbers like "61" and "714" and "755" that slappy traditionalists get all misty over. Those numbers represent to them a time when they got the 1974 Topps "Hank Aaron New All-Time Home Run King" card when they were 7, or sitting on their grandpa's lap looking over the Baseball Encyclopedia when they were 10 and seeing "1. Aaron, 2. Ruth, 3. Mays." When some modern-day meanie comes along and surpasses those numbers, the days of the Fonz and Mattel Football recede just a little bit more in the rearview mirror, and they don't like it. It's why you have so many 48-year-old boys pontificating how Barry Bonds is Lucifer himself, yet worship the roided-out-of-their-brains Super Steelers of the '70s.

A Rod takes a deal, IMO.

He sits a 1.5 and gets to comeback for the remainder of his contract. If he appeals and fights I see MLB having a hard on for him and they go for a lifetime ban....

Therefore on what's God's green earth did McGwire, who admitted to steroids use, gets to be a hitting coach while A-Rod gets life? The media -imposed hypocrisy is certainly nauseating. I am going to throw up.

The Ban would be from by the moral clause - not the PED usage.

Mac fessed up, apologized, etc... All is good.

A-Rod lied, interferred with investigation, etc.... Not so good.

"They" say he is working on a deal, so he has apparently owned up to his stupidity, so hopefully he'll just get a suspension and will be able to come back and play again. I suspect MLB is trying to suspend him for all of 2014 and he's trying to knock it down to about 100 games - or half of next year...

McGwire never broke any rules, and no one cared about his open use of steroids. They cheered and cheered and cheered. Why should he be banned?

Moral clause and not the PED usage? This is funny. Therefore using PED is morally okay, just not the lying obfuscation or when the lying interferes with investigation as if it is a criminal probe. Therefore McGwire after lying, and refusing to accept he used steroids for years now fesses up and "All is good?" Morality my foot.

I am not saying a player who has retired should or any player including A-Rod should be banned on account of steroids use. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of Selig and MLB in differing attitudes to McGwire and other players. In 1994 the FBI in "Operation Equine" fingered McGwire and Canseco as steroids users but MLB and the hypocrites in the media just yawned. Now on the account of McGwire's own admission of steroids use it is ridiculous for MLB to say now they have found religion and will like to ban a player because we believe he used steroids rules or no rules.

Personally -- I really hope the MLB doesn't ban A-Rod. It will let the Yankees off the hook for the absolutely absurd contract they gave him.

I'd rather see the MLB let A-Rod play and just levy the fine for the amount of games they were going to suspend him and give it to charity or give the money to fund youth baseball programs around the US.

Hell -- A-Rod is scheduled to make what -- 25 million in 2014 and 20 million in 2015? Fine him 45 million bux, he plays for the nothing the next two years and the money can be put to good use elsewhere.

Same should be done with Braun too. What the hell is suspending a guy for 50 games going to do? Braun will still make 100 million from his contract. 50 games is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Hell -- Melky Cabrera parlayed his 50 games suspension into a 14 million dollar contract.

Until the MLB starts really hitting these guys where it hurts -- nothing will change.
