anybody who cares about the looks or insignia of a motor on wheels is trying to compensate for something meaningful that's missing in their lives.

go with the one that's most dependable and the best value based on myriad sources.

Yeah, so which one is that again? I don't think anyone is impressed by anything, but you have differing levels of quality and potential longevity at different prices. That's why those are all about $20k with way different mileage. Which would you buy?

2011 Camry XLE V6 with <25k miles, fully loaded should be around $18k. Still has factory warranty, leather and all the bells and whistles, and will last forever. Not incredibly sexy, but sedan so your kids will fit, 275hp gives you plenty of power, and a Lexus-type ride for $10k less than a comparable ES350.

Call the used car factory...or I got a better idea, buy something that is close to 100k miles or 10 years old so it will depreciate and or breakdown faster lol

The best bet is to actually buy a good classic car that has already depreciated and now has started to go back up.

I've always said that it would be awesome to get a loan for $20k to buy a used car, and use that money to fully restore and update something like a '65 mustang. Front clip, crate FI 302, new axle in the back, aftermarket A/C and seats. All that would be around 20k, wouldn't depreciate, and would be like a new car. :suds:

So....the guy who bought the Wagoneer had a stroke and his wife finally called to explain why he didn't come get it this weekend.

:L

I guess I should assume the poor ol' dude won't be buying anything.

Yikes, that tough. I wouldn't expect him to follow through with the deal, but there will be another buyer not far behind him. :suds:

Love the "Wheeler Dealer" show on Velocity TV. Guy goes out and get a fully loaded Jag ( British Racing Green no doubt) with an engine "safe mode" shutdown problem, buys it cheap (8000 euros)...throws a USED throttle body (200 euros) assembly on er and has a completely "classy" set a skates to bomb around the UK in.

@ 20K Juice? I would go back in time, find a used beauty and rehab it. Take the savings saved and buy some gold coins to put back in your company safe. For the lil' kids college fund let's say.

I bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SXT 4 years ago w 60k miles on it for 15k (sticker price was 19k) and other than general upkeep (tires, oil changes, rotations) I've put nothing into it. Thing is a total beast.

Right. This really has to be the used car capital of the Earth. The place is packed with 80+ year olds crawling around in 500hp Euro wheels at 17mph who only use it for 3 months each year while here. They sell after 5 years for nothing and buy new again.

The guy buying the Waggy was so unexpected, I didn't have time to shop it like the Wheeler Dealer guy. But now I will and will find my next car victim. The hard part is getting to them before they trade it in and the dealer marks it up huge.

Go with the Lexus. The are 100 percent made in Japan and are more reliable than all the other brands. Some. Say they are just toyota but most toyotas aren't 100 percent made I'm japZn

Juice...late to the party on this thread...it really just depends on what you want obviously, but LY I purchased a '09 Infiniti G37 with 34k mi on it, $21.5k...had a yr of warranty on it...love the car, aside from 1 oil/filter change and gas I haven't spent a dime on it and we've driven it about .

For me...going under the Nissan or Toyota umbrella with an Infiniti or Lexus is hard to beat if you want a luxury car...the cost to maintain is only slightly more than having a Nissan or Toyota (I also have an Altima)...the German luxury cars are great on performance, but I would steer towards one with some warranty left and budget to extend it once it expires. My BIL has a '11 S550 he bought used in 2012, sweet car, so solid. Thus far it's been in the shop twice and each time the cost w/o warranty would've been over a grand.

gee, what kind of new car can you get for 20k.

I bought my daughter a ford fusion in 2011, it was a 2009 with 28k. paid 13.5. She got in an accident, a semi backed up to let a ups truck in a dock and did not see her, wrecked the front end. When we went to get it fixed, the car was a rebuild with a purple nose piece, yellow hood, fenders were different colors, all that needed to be replaced. 3k more we could have gotten a new one.

20k for a car with 65 or 80,000 miles is tough. Most of these quiet engines have rubber coated timing chains and tensioners that are due to be replaced at that mileage.

Hyundai has nice stuff for around 20, and a 100k warranty.

Agreed, and you can include Honda with Acura on that list. I have an Acura TSX, which I bought new for around $26K a few years back, and depending on the offer you get for your trade in car, you can get it in the $20K ballpark. Many of the replacement parts are Honda brand, so it's not too pricey when compared to an Audi or MB type car. The same probably goes with Infiniti and Lexus as you mentioned.
