its stupid to even compare them they are all different types of recievers. edelman and dola slot, kenbrell is a pure #2, and dobson is an outside #1. dobson has no competition at the spot its been practically handed to him by default.

JDM ...How do you make a position you have the best in the game at and better depth than most teams a priority when you have several positions that are legitimately weak? That's absurdity at its finest. I have been trying to not post BC it seems like I'm always arguing with JDM. Like beating a dead horse but this post got too me. How can we be weak at any positions when we have the best GM in the game. That's what you tell everyone. A few weak ok but several means a lot.

How hard is using the quote button? :noidea:

We don't have any positions at the bottom of the league. We do have several positions that need improvement to be a dominant Super Bowl contender. Tight end isn't one of them. We have the best of the game and very respectable depth, and making tight end a priority over most positions is batshit crazy.

And yes, BB is the best GM and best coach in the game. The amount of people that can be compared to him at just one or the other can be counted on one hand.

I hate to make you eat crow JDM but George Bush was the hand BB was shaking when the last time they won the Super Bowl in Feb 2005. I maybe wrong because your always right but I think it was the Red Sox 1 going on 2 Bruins 1 Celtics 1 that meet President Obama. So when you have the greatest QB in the history of the game who won three Super Bowls before the age of 28 just going into his prime with the top 5 head coach of all time. Something went wrong and it wasn't the coach not the QB maybe the GM with bad drafts and poor free agent signing. Brady is now 36. The bottom line is this team was set up to win more than just three Super Bowls. You tell me who failed at there job.

I'm a huge fan of Edelman. He's a great underneath guy. But he can't go get the ball.

Edelman has quite a few deep catches this year. He may not be a Moss type deep threat, but he is far more versatile than a Welker type slot receiver

Because he has been busy rebuilding the team from scratch. The league is deliberately set up to make it very difficult to be a continuous contender for an extended period of time.

Belichick has this team 8-3 and a top contender again, with a team almost completely rebuilt most of the starters on both sides of the ball are under 25-26), while averaging 11.5 wins a year. Nobody has come close to matching this. When he wins 2-3 more in the next couple of years he will go down as the best ever.

But very few, right now, will put any active coach or GM above BB.

I didn't say he can't go down the field. But he has to be pretty open to even get a legitimate target (as in not a deliberate throwaway in his direction). He's not the kind of guy who can outfight a defender for a tough ball. Brady will (and has repeatedly) deliberately overthrow him or throw it out of bounds if he isn't NFL standards wide open.

JDM I see your point like in 2006 we where a Deion Branch away from winning a Super Bowl and had to rebuild to get younger. Dam league and cap space. But the greatest GM of all time got us Brandon Meriweather for Dion Branch with older WR to replace Branch with. Dam League. So his GM skills help Peyton Manning get his ring.

In 2006 the Patriots defense choked away a huge lead in the AFC Championship game. BB isnt perfect but nobody is. The Patriots have had unprecedented success in the last 13 years under Belichick. They havent won it since the 04 season but they are contenders every year. As a fan you cant asked for more than that although winning 3 titles in 4 years got some people spoiled into thinking they can continue that type of success. There is an element of luck involved in the game which includes the draft, but over the course of 13 years the Patriots record is unmatched.

The fact remains that Edelman is the only patriot with more receiving yards than Dobson.

Just imagine what his numbers would look like without all the drops and bobbles.

The last DT taken by BB from the top 100 players available in the draft was Ron Brace in 2009 = BUST

The last DT taken in the top 100 prior to Brace was Vince Wilfork in 2004

Why do they have to start two undrafted/waived players in the middle this year? See above.

I don't know how that's an example of rebuilding a championship defense or how wasting high picks on defensive backs who can't play or have to be moved to postions they weren't drafted to play is an example of it or how drafting LBs with coverage issues is an example of it. IMO, it's an example of how to squander high draft picks more than anything else because Belichcik has had a boat load of them.

The Patriots lost in 2006 to the Colts because once the Colts made the adjustment to take Troy Brown out of the game. They had to really on there out side WR which they had to many key drop balls that would have been first downs to keep Peyton off the field and there defense just got tired. The Patriots that year let WR David Givens walk as a free agent and traded Deion Branch. They replace them with Reche Caldwell, Doug Gabriel and traded up to get Chad Jackson. BB new he made a mistake and traded for Randy Moss ,Wes Welker and signed Donte Stallworth. I knew being a fan in 2007 the Patriots did everything they could to win a Super Bowl but your right sometimes you need luck. It seems like after 2007 they lost there way.

No one has gotten more value out of less starting pick value than Belichick. The misses are part of the strategy and he has had more successes than anyone else.

Twist whatever you want however you want it. That's the reality of the situation.

Back to the subject.....Aaron Dobson has had a productive season as a rookie. He has seen steady improvement, albeit while fighting off injuries. He has done as well as we expect but not as well as we hoped (go figure).
Dobson is not playing well enough for a #1. I have high hopes for him BUT the fact remains that if he does not continue to improve, that if he scores 10 TDs but leads the league in drops next year, he'll be traded or cut by the end of his rookie contract.

He won't. The drops were rookie nerves and poor chemistry and have already been corrected.

I'd say the Patriots have a bunch of 2's and 3's. I think Dobson is the only guy on the team with the potential to develop into the true #1 but I dont think he is the best on the team at the moment. I think he has already done more this year than any WR the Patriots have drafted in the past 10 years so its nice to see that maybe the Patriots have two rookies that have the ability to hold a roster spot based solely on their ability to catch passes and not playing special teams.

He did last year too. Though, he has the same number of 20+ and of 40+ catches as Dobson (literally exactly the same # of both) on nearly twice as many total receptions, so while you're absolutely right that he's a better deep threat than Welker (not saying he's a better football player, but he is a better deep threat), he's not as good of one as Dobson.
