My point is simply that this team is anti-2010 in regards to strengths and weaknesses.

FZ has put together a nice offensive team by doing his trademarked dumpster diving. And we have a LOT of offense on the farm coming up to fill out the roster in the next 3 years or so.

But the pitching cupboard is dry as a bone.

The pitching cupboard is not barren, as there are Hjelle and Corey and Beede (recovering) and Moronta (recovering), Menez, Gudino, Doval, Adon, Beck, etc.

Probably not an ace among them, but some pretty solid arms. Still, need to focus on drafting and developing arms, while not neglecting the hitting, either, which has been done for far too long.

I would guess that the org has moved on from Adon. He was given the Chris Shaw treatment during summer training and into the season. Just like Shaw, he was only recently added to the alternate site. Considering how this bullpen has operated, his lack of chances seems pretty glaring.

And what the heck is going on with Menez!?!? He was one of the few bright spots in the bullpen so the Giants decide to send him down?!?! Now, he languishes at the alternate site (not Sacramento, mind you, just the alternate site located in Sacramento) while guys like Rico Garcia get to come back up to the big league club. Again, what the heck!?!?!

You need these types of guys to COMPLIMENT the studs. They are needed, sure. But without the STUD, you don’t have anything.

Granted, Cory and Hjele have potential to be THAT guy, but I am not holding my breath on either being more than a #2 type guy.

It's still pretty early in the process. I'm sure he knows he has to find pitching to contend in perhaps 2 years.

I'm not sure he's looking at a two year horizon for contention.

At least, the fanboi in me hopes not.

Just being realistic...it's nice they are playing better than expected now, but I suspect we won't be truly contending until we are rid of the dead weight vets. 2 years isn't that far away...2022

Some of these dead weight vets are aren't looking so dead. What happens if Belt keeps hitting like he has through this season and into next year? Do they keep him or let him walk? Does Longoria's option get picked up after next year? Would the Giants let Crawford go if he continues to hit better? The only guy that seems to have a guarantee to be gone (that hasn't been dfa'd already) is Samardzija.
