What a gutless baseball team in San Diego. Embarrassing.
A little on the harsh side I would think. They have quite a few good pieces .... but none of the pieces seem to work together or even seem they belong together.
But a team like this is very hard to get a handle on. Just hope they have thrown in the towel and don't take it out on us now.
What the hell has happened to them coming out of the first half. They looked like a legit contender.

Sort of reminds me of what our 2016 year looked like from the outside. A great 1st half followed by an unexplained collapse. Didnt understand that collapse and not sure about the Padres either.

Just don't want them to rise to the occasion against us. I think I would have preferred to finish the season against the DBacks ... but ... just keep on winning and it won't matter at all ....

Just checked the pitching matchups for the Brewers/Dodgers series.

Friday - Lauer vs Kershaw
Saturday - Burnes vs Urias
Sunday - TBD vs TBD

Looks like Milwaukee is gonna play to win.

I stand by it though, they have no heart. Gonna finish with a losing record LOL, we still made the playoffs in 2016

What helped the Giants in 2016 was that they had the BRIB going into the All-Star Break. The Padres weren't in that position this year. However, the similarities between the two teams are very striking.
The 2016 Giants were 57-33 going into the 2016 All-Star break and were 30-42 afterward.
The 2021 Padres were 53-40 going into this year's All-Star break and are 25-40 since then.
This year's Padres were slightly worse than the 2016 Giants but still had the same epic collapse. Those few extra wins in 2016, plus a weaker NL that year, helped the Giants make the postseason.

Again, 2016 Giants > 2021 Pussies. If the Phegdres don't bitch out last night the division race is pretty much over right now.

I agree that the 2016 Giants were slightly better than the 2021 Padres. The 2016 Giants had a .633 winning percentage in the 1st half, .417 winning percentage in the 2nd half and an overall .537 winning percentage.
The 2021 Padres had a .570 winning percentage in the 1st half, currently have a .385 winning percentage in the 2nd half and will be extremely lucky to complete the year with an overall .506 winning percentage (worst case, will finish with a .481 winning percentage). That is a difference of 5 to 9 wins between the two teams. Probably closer than you think but still makes the 2016 Giants better.

Bit of recency bias on my part but I can't stress this enough:

Looking at the Fraudre payroll, the only FA of note next year from them is Tommy Pham.

They might suck for a while.

As LHG mentioned they don't 'suck'. Next year maybe the talent holds up better. But I wouldn't count on it.

The pads have always had a problem putting together a roster. They have done a decent job of collecting talent, but putting a competitive ROSTER together has been their white whale.

A few years ago, when they got Kemp and Upton and a bunch of other big names, they were all impressive headlines, but they didn’t make a team. For example, they didn’t have a single CF on the entire 40 man roster. How could you overlook that?

This year was probably something similar (though not as glaring). Machado had real questions about his character before ever joining them. Hosmer was a questionable signing when they already had Myers at 1B. They grossly overpaid for Darvish and Snell.
