I really like this Braves team, tbh. So much exciting young talent, and Freeman is a beast

I know Hunter Strickland hasn't been that good since returning from his injury but I didn't realize how bad until looking up his numbers. In 8 games since activation (I thought he'd thrown in more than that), he's gone 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits (not too bad), 4 walks, 8 runs (!), 5 earned runs and struck out 4 batters. The 2 home runs he's given up has doubled the amount he's allowed on the season. Ditto the earned runs.
Of course, he only had one really good month (April, and two good games in March) and was quite mediocre since then, so the injury only gave him a break in the acceleration of his break down.
And in the time it took me to post that, he gave up two more hits and allowed another run while retiring only one batter.

Was hoping they'd trade him last offseason while he had some value. Now he's honestly a possible DFA candidate (not likely, but you consider it)

Not sure I'd go that far. If Gearrin was not a dfa candidate, I doubt Strickland would. But he doesn't have much trade value and his role in the bullpen is greatly diminished.

Yeah, you're probably right. For some reason I thought Strickland was deeper into arbitration and looking at a $4-$5 million salary. He'll be about half that

Nine in a row....
Suddenly, this team looks worse that last year's squad. Did McCutchen provide a lot more than we realized?

So how long before Bochy realizes that the plan he's using to win isn't working, the GM fills out the 40 man roster and just plays the kids the rest of the way?

Yeah, you're right, won't happen.

Cutch, Posey, Duggar....

My prediction of Boch lasting one more year still stands, but I'm less comfortable about it now. I do wonder if the F.O. is going to be frank with him next year, tell him that they don't intend to renew his contract. That would give Boch the opportunity to say he's going out on his terms. Of course we'd probably never know if that's the case or not.

0-September lives!

Strick has become gas can.

The Augusta team could hit better than this.

Belt is in a prolonged funk (.147 in last 30 games, called strike 3 in the 9th. He may be our best hitter, but he is no team leader. When the team scores runs, Belt hits. When the team doesn't score, Belt doesn't hit.)

Longo is in a prolonged funk (.193 in last 30 games)

Crawford is in a prolonged funk (.153 in last 30 games)

Hundley is in a prolonged funk (.207 in last 30 games)

GorKys is in a prolonged funk (.136 in last 30 games)

Panik is in a prolonged semi-funk (.250 in last 30 games)

So yeah, keep rolling those guys out. Playing the same sort of baseball the Giants have "always" played.

Three whole hits tonight. And once again, NO WALKS. Pathetic hitters, being coached pathetically. The Braves' starter walks 4.5/9 innings, and we take no walks from him? Nice job.

DRod with a great start, and Noggin starts him in the 7th with 100 pitches already. Why?

I forgot that all three were gone around the same time. Ouch.
I see Bochy managing out the string of his contract and then an amicable parting. I do wonder if he would walk away mid season if the team struggles out of the gate in 2019.

It won't happen but I say transfer Duggar and Jones to the 60 day disabled list (Jones needs to placed) and purchase Brock Stassi and Myles Schroder. Let them play. Purchase Tyler Rogers and put Derek Law on the 60 day as well. Call up Tyler Beede, Tyler Herb, Josh Osich, Miguel Gomez, heck, even Chase Johnson. Maybe even put Mac Williamson on the 60 day and purchase Peter Bourjos. Play them all regularly. It won't be any worse than now, losing everyday.

The first and second picks for 2019 are pretty much decided. The 3rd through 6th picks are a jumbled mess and the 7th through 12th picks are toss ups. The Giants are working hard to move up but have some stiff competition. Fortunately, the Reds pulled a double whammy - beating the Dodgers and giving a little chance for the Giants to catch them.

Baltimore 41-102 - (19 games left)
Kansas City 48-95 7 (19)
White Sox 56-88 14.5 (18)
San Diego 57-88 15 (17)
Miami 56-86 15.5 (20)
Detroit 59-85 17.5 (18)
Cincinnati 62-83 20 (17)
Texas 62-82 20.5 (18)
Toronto 65-78 24 (19)
Mets 65-77 24.5 (20)
Minnesota 65-78 24 (19)
Giants 68-77 26 (17)
Anaheim 71-73 29.5 (18)
Washington 71-72 30 (19)
Pittsburgh 71-72 30 (19)

If you added Bumgarner to that team look out
