When swinging at the 1st pitch, the Giants are 28th in MLB with a .315 average (the ROX are 1st with a .378 average)

The Giants have also hit into 31 double plays on the first pitch, which leads the majors.

The Giants are dead last in homers on the 1st pitch with 7 (Milwaukee has 35)

The Giants are dead last in OPS and SLG on the first pitch.

So, why, exactly, are the hitters continuing their remorseless attack on the first pitch they see?

Clearly because the FO tolerates mediocrity and ignores deficiencies.

Mijares with runners on: .273 average

Mijares with no runners on: .352 average

And why would Noggin want to have Petit start the 7th anyway?

To stretch him out...give him a one runner leash and see if he can gut it out through seven. Not a bad gamble.

If YP continues this type of performance, you have to wonder how hard the Gs pursue Grope. Or, maybe he becomes the 7th bully arm.
At this point, we can't have enough SP options for 2014.

There are other views on this club outside of your own that dont always support every move that Sabean/ownership make. Attacking those with differing opinions reflects poorly on you in my opinion but hey its you world, Im just living in it. I guess you are required to have 9k posts on sports SportsHoopla these days to earn your stripes as a Giants fan. Oh well, have a good day. Solid Giants win and series.

You put your opinion out on a public board. I didn't attack YOU, I called your ill thought out opinion to light. You want to discuss, have at it. But I've a feeling you don't really WANT to discuss, you just want to whine.

And this isn't about not "supporting every move that Sabean/ownership make," it's about sophomoric conjectures about "ignoring" issues. Re-read your post and tell me it's well reasoned.

Missed the game, but it looks like the guys are starting to wake up.

Bodes well for next year, although I hope we do not fall out of the top 10.

Youre completely right. I demand more of Fred Lewis, Dave Roberts, and the magical platoons of Burrell/Ross and Blanco/Torres/Tanaka/Francoeur.

Im not at all saying ownership has done a lackluster job of finding/growing talent over the last 6 seasons but rather that left field in particular has been a revolving door of sub par players since Bonds. I dont find my original post regarding Blanco sophomoric conjecture or ignorant. Since 2007 they have not provided a stable talent in left which can be frustrating at times. Its my opinion, simple as that.

They have devoted the funds needed to put a major player in Left into other positions (bully, catcher, CF, RF, 2B, SP). No team can field 8 all-star quality payers, not even the doggies or Spanks. They have to make decisions on where to splurge and where to play it cheap. LF if a low defensive requirement position, so by having that the "weak" position, it allows row minor leaguers or waiver-wire pickups to fill and find that golden nugget (Burrell, Ross, Melky, Torres, etc).

Not sure why you rank Ross and Burrell in your stink fest. Both of them played HUGE roles in the 2010 championship. I think they are both perfect examples of why the crappy-LFer stance is the correct stance.

It's just that you are coming to the party late. We've been discussing the situation since May on this board, and you just don't have any of that background. For example, I'm pretty happy with how the team was constituted these last two years (or, rather, how the money was split, and where the 'new' big money was spent : Posey, Cain, MadBum, Pagan). But it's pretty much accepted on this board that the problem this year wasn't LF (or any single position) - it was injuries. Lot of them, multiple overlapping, to key players. For example, there wasn't supposed to be "a left fielder" - it was supposed to be a platoon. But when Pagan went down, suddenly Blanco and Torres became the starters instead of Blanco playing against RHP and Torres against LHP. Pablo went down, and it took him a long time to get back in the swing of things after he 'came back'. Vogelsong. Etc., etc.

There's more than one thread where this was battered to death over the last 3 months or so.

Here's what you wrote:

I'm simply stating that one shouldnt condone mediocrity at a position for more than half a decade because of recent success. Just because you win a title the year before doesnt mean you ignore glaring weaknesses in a stagnant offense.

You imply that the FO "condones mediocrity" and "ignores glaring weaknesses." That's a very different thing from saying that LF has been a "revolving door of sub par players since Bonds." No rational person would disagree with the second statement; the first is just pantshatty. BTW, a juiced up Melky says "hi."

Lights - welcome aboard.

As you can see, we run a tight ship here. One has to choose words carefully here - they will be dissected. That is a good thing. You're doing okay, but one of the reasons this is the best Giants board on the planet is that there are several of us here who have been around and know their stuff. And we try to differentiate between the posts and the posters. Anyone can slip up - we've all done it and paid for it - but we get up, dust ourselves off, forgive and forget, and move on to continue to make this board what it is.

Don't be in too much of a hurry to prove yourself. It's not a zero-sum game here. Iron sharpens iron. It doesn't help matters that we are having such a frustrating season. That makes for a difficult environment here sometimes. Hope this doesn't scare you away. I can see that you are intelligent, articulate, and opinionated - like we all are. Sure we bump elbows sometimes, but more often when reaching for our virtual beers than done in enmity.
