How many would he have hit if he wasn't suspended for nearly a full year during his career?

Btw, he was a pretty good pitcher as well. Think he threw a no hitter too.

Maybe 8-10.

After his age 23 season he only had 20 career homers in a little under 800 career at bats.

And he led the league that season, with 11. Also led the league in strikeouts. Would be the last time he’d strike out more than he’d walk until his last season. He’d done it every season of his career at that point.

They did use him as a pinch hitter quite a bit in those early years when he was a starting pitcher. But he hit like .220 in those situations.

He was a CYA caliber starter, if that had existed. But I’m not sure his abilities as a hitter were there yet. Not that any bodies were as far as what we think from prime Babe Ruth.

Didn’t he only get like six weeks from Landis?

I’m sure he got suspended a few times, for being a dick on the field, but was it really over a 100 games he missed?

He was more than a CYA pitcher.

His ERA’s were 2.44, 1.75, 2.01, 2.22 and 2.97 ( not counting his first season where he only started 3 games ).

But, since those early years were during the dead ball era, you are probably right about the HR projection, although he hit 29 his last season in Boston when he still started 15 games as a pitcher.
