8/4/13 GDT Bills Wild @ Tampons

When we fell behind, I feared the game was over. This Rays bullpen is LEGIT, they have multiple guys coming out throwing in the upper-90s and 2 of them are lefties! We needed to get our runs off the starter, which we did (though not much of a cushion). Unfortunately, walks beat our guys today, again. Leadoff walk to start the game, 2-run homer follows. Leadoff walk to a .195 hitter this year, steals a base, scores the go-ahead and eventual winning run.

Particularly against this Rays offense, you can't walk the guys who won't hurt you with the long ball, but will on the bases. You just play to their strengths, almost like goosing one up for a homer-run hitter. Giants pitchers had it backwards today and it cost them.

Pence batting first is a bad idea. We need someone to take some pitches. Not someone who will swing at first or second pitch most times

I think Crawford hitting in front of Posey instead of a pitcher would do very well for him. Hope Boch agrees.

Lets face it Torres and Blanco are 5th outfielders on most clubs yet the defending WS champions have them as starters...... Doesn't that give you an indication why the team is struggling ? The Giants won two World Series with pitching and now that pitching is not on par with the past couple of seasons and their weak lineup is being exposed...... Is this what we fans deserve for selling out every game and buying all of that stupid merchandise ? a mediocre club on the field .... Time to open up those fat wallets and get Giancarlo Stanton and another big bat in the off season .... The Giant Fans deserve a better defense of their crown and you don't do that by being cheap....

The Giants have increased the payroll from 80M to 140M in about 5 years and brought 2 rings to the Bay.

So, the leadoff hitters are hitting less than .200 for the last three weeks, and Noggin is just now thinking about changing things up?!?!

I posted this a few weeks ago, about perhaps having Scoots lead off, just in the order of OBP. Heck, why not have Posey lead off?

Today, Blanco grounded out on the first pitch he saw.

I am not sure whether a) Blanco is not a MLB hitter, b) He does not listen to his coaching, c) Muelens has not helped him to use his speed and bat, d) all three. If Blanco will not listen to Muelens, then he should sit. If Muelens is not helping him become a better hitter, well, I think changes need to be made.

Neither Blanco nor Torres seem to have enough patience to take a walk (Giants had 4 walks total in the three games against the Rays), and work the count.

And this season long inability to hit with RISP, is anyone responsible for that, or are they just having "tough at bats" and "we'll see how things look tomorrow"?

Could have won all three vs the Rays, who are a tough, fundamentally sound, pitching rich, disciplined, well-coached team.

Bring on the Sudsmen.

We take the loss, but again, I am OK with that. The Giants played a solid series.

These games remind us that we are very close to being an elite team, and next year could be fun again.
