Not even worth a game thread.

Strat pitched well, except for all the walks.

Cain is done. Period. Gives up 8 runs in 2/3 of an inning, turning a 2-0 game into a 10-0 debacle. Well, the whole season has been a debacle, so why not?

Why put Cain into such a close game anyway? Not like it is winnable with these hitters anyway, but 2-0 seems closer than 10-0. What a joke.

This team cannot hit. They get one or two opportunities a game when the game is on the line, and almost always manage to screw it up. Today it was Posey failing to deliver (again) early, and then Craw grounded into a killer DP late. Then Cain came in and threw kerosene on the fire and BOOM! Game really, really over.

Good news.

We lost.

Philth won.

Still hard to take.

Well, we can take solace in the fact that Stratton has looked really good against 3 playoff teams.

A big part of this shitshow season is on Crawford and Pence, let's not forget.

I was never fond of the fecal references that used to be common on this board , but one would certainly be appropriate today: ****show!!!

Again, it must be nice to have 3 thirty guys.

Edit: NINJA'D!!

I'd like to see one of the homegrown pitchers have a long, productive career that goes into his late 30s.

Probably get your wish with Bumgarner. But he may not be with the Giants then.

Bum is in his age 27 season...

Here are some of his career numbers...

1483 IP, 2.98 ERA, 1462/337 K/BB,

Cain, through his age 27 season (his final productive season)...

1536 IP, 3.27 ERA, 1279/524 K/BB

Bum is certainly better, but not by a significant amount. Cain had 50 additional innings, but when you factor in postseason, their innings are almost identical. Although Bum still has about 5 more starts this year...

I HOPE you are right that Bum will continue to be an Ace moving forward, but I would not bet on that outcome. Cain was not randomly given the nic of Horse. He got it because he was a beast of a pitcher who ate innings. Bum is the same.

And when Cain was given that extension, there were no signs of a huge drop in production, unlike so many other starting pitchers. Cain's extension actually looked worthwhile. There are already questions about Bumgarner's long term production, given the severity of the injury that he suffered this year. Granted, his short term production hasn't really gone down but its something worth monitoring. I hope that he can stick around another 10 years.
