you know how anytime you read a mutual fund prospectus or other investment disclosures, you are probably going to come across the oft-repeated phrase, "Past performance is no guarantee of future results." ?

Yeah, that.
Dude just has not been the same since 2015. His stats appear to have improved over his last 6-7 starts, but a lot of those starts were at home. His home-road splits tell a different story. Yankees chased the wrong guy. Darvish has a proven track of success in a hitter-friendly environment. Gray needs a pitcher-friendly environment which Yankee Stadium is not.
Any way you spin it

They were in first place with Jordan Montgomery and Caleb Smith and Luis Cessa taking the ball 2 out of every 5

They are better with Garcia and Gray

We will find out how much better

When you put it that way, sure, the Frauds are better off. All I am saying is don't expect the 2014-2015 version of Sonny Gray because that guy ain't coming to NY.

All we need is 5 good innings and then we can turn it over to the best bullpen in baseball.

Darvish would have been a rental for a high end prospect or 3

Yankees aren't in the business of handing out 200 million contracts anymore
If baseball's 'flagship franchise' is unwilling to sign $200 million contracts, then it is time for the Steinbrenners to sell the team. You are the Fraudkees for Chrissakes. You invented the bloated payroll. Open your wallet, pussies!

Gray has a lower career road ERA than home ERA. I understand he isn't the same pitcher from 2014, but since the start of 2016 his road ERA is only about a half run higher than his home ERA. He's 26th in the AL in road ERA among players with 35 innings pitched on the road, and 19th in home ERA.

No reason to, they have done a total rebuild in one season, without making the same mistakes they have in the past

And that's not what the Yankees paid for. Gave up the 77th best prospect in baseball and 2 guys outside the top 100. I know a lot of fans were high on those other two guys, but they weren't elite prospects. If they were getting the 2014-2015 Sonny Gray, they would have had to give up a lot more than they did.

Well, it isn't the best, at least not when Betances never knows where his pitch is going to go, but it is pretty damn good. Everyone this year is copying Cleveland from last year. Get 5 or 6 out of your starter and turn it over to the bullpen. It actually isn't a new playoff strategy. Playoff teams have been doing this for as long as I have watched baseball.

It's not like he's Zito, who had pedestrian K/BB rates and was a flyball pitcher. Mulder also had pedestrian strikeout rates and they dropped below 5 K/9 in St. Louis. I'd say they had more red flags. The Yanks are also a much better team defensively than the A's.

Yes, mostly started with the late 90's dynasty Yankees

I'm aware. But I figured you could use a larger sample size. Those rankings I gave you are from this year. He has a 1.42 ERA in his last 3 road starts.

You are trying really hard to avoid his overall home/road splits for this year.

When it's all said and done, I really think the trade with the White Sox is going to be a bigger deal than the Gray trade. The ChiSox gave up two quailty relievers and Frazier for next to nothing. Granted it was mostly a salary dump for them but still probably the best trade the Yankees made this season.

..and you're trying really hard to make this a bad trade.

But go ahead, it's fun watching you try.

I agree, I do hear Rutherford will be a very solid major leaguer, but I like the idea of having Robertson and Kahlne beyond this season.....Frazier is exactly who I thought he would be, which is "meh"
