Well let's get the conspiracy theory straight. Is it Price being a pussy or the team trying to protect him?

Remember - this is allegedly a team in a division race and Price's absence means they have to start the likes of Doug Fister (even though that actually went well).

The other side of it is now his teammates are behind him...which makes me think more he orchestrated it.
It all started the night after eck basically mocked him on tv. "A few spits. Shake a few off. Spit again. He'll figure it out soon". To that effect.
Price flipped his shit then made it about the team, not him, when he said he flipped on eck because he also mocked eddies rehab stats wirh a "yuck".
Goes after him the night eck mocks him...claims it's in his teammates defense when in reality hes just looking for angry mob assistance.

I don't doubt any of that. What I don't believe is that the team would do anything to "protect" him. I find it more believable that Price wanted to bail out of that start and then complained about his elbow, but shit, if that's true then the team is fucked. Think about it - you have the highest paid guy on the team basically bailing on his responsibilities because he's afraid of a hostile crowd reaction? Not good.
