He didn't say "The Giants are morons for not trading Casilla!"

He said "With the abundance of cheaper options, this course should be explored"

I actually think there is value in looking into that. In the off-season.

Off season, I agree.

Different era. Different game.

Sure but it's still cool to contemplate the stuff that will never happen again. No one will ever top DiMaggio's 56. No team will ever again win a 7 game playoff series throwing 4 complete games in a row. No pitcher will ever win 30 games again. Etc.

I just thought of something...

If the Giants do, in da t, activate his option, CAN they trade him? There are lost of restrictions in MLB about when a player can be traded and he can't. For example, a FA signee cannot be traded, I believe, until opening day (later?). Is the a similar rule for options?

I can imagine a reliever winning 30. VERY doubtful, but I can see it happening. With the direction the game is going today.

DiMaggio's 56 is possible as well.

A 15-inning CG? No way in hell.

A World Series where one team has multiple complete games? HIGHLY unlikely.

Can't agree with you re reliever winning 30. Or the 56....I am tempted to say Rose's 44 will never happen again, but there's a slim chance. 56? Not possible. This article doesn't even totally cover it:

Baseball's unbreakable record -- Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak

Some mathematician baseball fans (redundant?) figured out that it's simply exponentially impossible. Like the 56 game streak was such a 50 sigma outlier or whatever...

Agree re 15 inning CG

And I wasn't talking 'multiple' complete games (2,3...). I'm talking 4 complete game playoff wins in a freaking row. 2005 White Sox. Will never ever happen again.

I understood what you meant with the 4 CGs. I was just taking it a step further. The game has become SOOO specialized that a rule change would be required to get that to happen.

If by "up and coming" you mean "shitty" then, sure.

Disgusting series. Incredibly disappointing.

It's no excuse that the Giants got swept by an inferior team, but this Miami team is better than they're getting credit for.

Yup.

They were picked by many to at least be contenders this year. They are a talented bunch.

But as you said, no excuse for a sweep.
