33 years between the Count's no-no in '76 and Durty's in '09, now there have been 3 in 4 years...

and Bum's (umm I mean Big Country) been close a few times, too

Agreed re Pablo. Also, do I detect that he seems to look a bit more nimble and fit than he did prior to his foot injury?

The man has always been nimble/athletic for a fat guy...like Babe Ruth (no I'm not comparing their hitting ability), or John Belushi, or John Goodman, or Chris Farley. He doesn't need to get down to 'not fat' he just needs to get down to the level of fat that he plays well at.

Galarraga's near-perfecto is the best example, IMHO.

As far as caution goes, just look at Matty. He has not been the same since his perfecto.

I'm not too sure that the perfect game had any long term adverse effects on Cain. Outside of the horrendous April and May, he's been fine.

If anything, all the postseason innings logged would have the bigger impact imo.

Excuse me? Have you seen his last couple of starts?

They are the same number of games back as they were 3 games ago and have 3 less games to catch up..but the outlook is 10x better

They also play more of the likes of the NL West in the second half. Above anything else, they just have to play to their capabilities.

Just gotta appreciate everything this team has accomplished..whatever happens the rest of this season..Timmy's no no happened.

YEah, the nono complicates things for me for sure. When I thought Timmy was just completely done it was easy to say 'ok thanks for the memories, now off to Seattle with you'. That game changes the equation for me at least.

Three games ago:

AZ 47-44 --
LAD 45-45 1.5
COL 44-48 3.5
SF 40-50 6.5
SD 41-51 6.5

This morning:

AZ 50-44 --
LAD 47-46 2.5
COL 45-50 5.5
SF 43-50 6.5
SD 41-54 9.5

Looks to me like we put SD in the rear view, are knocking on Colorado's door, and gained on the doyers.

If we're going to make the playoffs, we pretty much have to win the division. To do that, we needed to pass four teams. We've passed one and are on the heels of the second. One team at a time. We have to catch all four, and the lead dog is coming into AT&T Friday.

We all have, but ascribing those to his perfecto seems a reach to me.

I was responding to the 'outside of April and May he's been fine' comment. Actually, he's been at his worst his last 2 starts, not 'fine'

I agree the perfect game isn't the issue. Not sure what is.

I have, but I'm not going to draw end of career conclusions from those starts especially when he's had an overall exceptional June.

My response was that referring to long term issues stemming from throwing perfect games/no hitters.

If we are evaluating Cain's 2013 season, then I see 2 horrible months by Cain's standards, then a series of strong outings, followed by two starts where elbow issues have sprung up.

I think it's quite possible that the early season problems were corrected and the last two starts are from an entirely different problem altogether.

My conclusion: long term, he's fine; short term, he's injured

Wow...

What a contrast from when Wilson K'd Cruz. Posey jumped into Weez's arms. Here he picked up Timmeh.

Very telling, in a deep psychological way.

That is SOOO super-awesome. It looks like he abandoned jumping INTO the pitchers arms a few accomplishments ago, granted.

But dang, his jumping into Weezies arms was a bit strange. Glorious and beautiful, but strange.

Still surprised that they are the only MLB Golden Spikes battery in history.

It becomes a little more understandable when you look at the number of elite college SS that switch to catcher, but your point is completely valid. It should've happened by accident a long time ago. Luckily, this one was in the planning for quite some time. :)

Too bad they have no chemistry....

Indeed. Check this out, esp at 0:50:

MLB.com Gameday | MLB.com: Gameday

(Go to the right column of video highlights, the one that says "Lincecum closes out no-hitter" that lasts 1:55.)

After the first hug, then everyone mobs him. But once it settles down a bit, Timmy seeks Buster out ("Buster!") and gives him a proper, genuine, face-to-face man hug. Nice, nice moment.
