Are you asking what Lucic is worth or just in general? If just in general is this a F or D? There are many reasons why stats aren't always a measure of some players. That stat line has different meaning depending on the style of the team its associated with...

I know that Looch is a special player. He's a power forward, left wing that goes to the net. The Kings haven't had one of those, since Robitaille was playing.
Looch is intimidating and can hit the body. What worries me is that he has 8 years worth of mileage on him playing that type of game. The is year, he is earning $6.5 and he will be looking for atleast that much if not more, long term. He may end up being Brown 2.0. And the Kings have one of those albatross contracts already. Do they really want another one?

I can understand the worry, but Lucic is a much bigger person. He isn't playing "big" he is big. While he could stil breakdown as anyone can I think its much less unlikely with him. Im not a fan of a lot of long contracts anyways. I think with Looch it will come down to how much he likes it in LA vs $$ someplace else. I don't see the Kings offering too big of a contract unless Brown is delt with

Im not sure what those numbers are but in 9 seasons Lucic has only reached around that 25g/60p total your worried about 3 times....so mostly no he does not do that. The fact that he has almost surpassed last seasons totals with 20 games left while playing the Kings system is enough for me to think he is not "done". There are many players that can produce outside of the Kings system, only a few that can while playing the system.

Lucic is a prototype King, and he has fit in well with LA in and out of the locker room. From everything I have read, he loves LA, his family loves LA, he has become a fan favorite quickly, he has produced, he has played some key roles in key times this season.

He may not be putting up 25 goals, but he is producing for the Kings and at big moments. Keep in mind "producing" for LA is not the same as "producing" for Chicago or Dallas, in LA his 15 goals is equivalent to a 25-28 goal scorer IMO on another team simply because of the low scoring, defense first game LA plays.

He also doesn't put up with anyone's shit, and if no one else has noticed, when he is out there the Kings playing with him are being left alone. Look back at the Duck game, Perron is his typical douche self getting into Quick's grill and shortly after Lucic goes and returns the favor to Gibson.

Before him, who would have done that? Anyone? No - the other members of the team don't have that snarl to them. He does, and it's kept teams honest. They know he will not hesitate to drop them at the blink of an eye if something happens (look at Phoenix when he got suspended). He's a messenger, and in this game there are messages sent constantly - some subtle (changing lines), some not (pummeling someone in retaliation). He accomplishes that well.

So to answer your question Howdy, a guy with stats like that shouldn't be worth more than maybe $3.5-4 million IMO, maybe a little more considering it is free agency and premiums apply. But when you take into the account all the other things - the personalty, the fit, the skill set, what he provides that does not show up on a stat sheet - he is worth more than that.

Now I don't know what that number is - in my mind I would like to see him make no more than $5.5 million, but that is not realistic considering he already makes $6.5 million and there will be no shortage of suitors him. All I know is if someone can get it done, it's Dumbo and I think he will.

Puck I read that article too. And it made a lot of points. But what I am afraid of is that the way he plays, will affect him down the road. If indeed the Kings do sign him last big term, that contract should be limited to no more than 3 or 4 years.

I guess I wouldn't care, his contract if it becomes "bad" will be when the Kings are on their way down anyways. Its not Like Richards/Brown who handcuffed the team while they are contenders.

Kings4, it will handcuff them. The salary cap is a bitch and youngsters like Toff, have a bridge contract and will be looking to get paid. And don't forget that DD8 has only 3 years left on his contract. And he will definitely be looking for Kopi payola.

The cap is supposed to handcuff teams, the point is they cant keep everybody even without signing Lucic. Personally I think they have a better chance with him them without him. I guess it comes down to weather you think Pearson/Brown is a better option then Lucic. I am not even sure why your this worried about signing Lucic unless you really don't like him. The bigger contract problems like Richards and Brown you where ok with as I recall. I am confident Deano is doing whatever he can to get a contract that both sides can do, otherwise Looch will be elsewhere which is a high probability right now.

Hind sight is 20/20. We can get rid of Brown's contract because of the numbers. That is something that we are stuck with. Looking 3 years into the future, when DD8 is up and between then Toff and Pearson, it seems that I can't see the Looch deal being done. True Looch is a better player than Brown but unless Brown is off the books, it becomes difficult if not impossible to continue to keep this core together and add to it.

I guess im still not sure what your asking. But yes, GM's need to juggle many things including the cap space to put a roster together. They need to decide who to spend the $$ on and who to let walk away. Looch will either sign with the Kings or not. If he does, it will be tough to keep everyone. If he does not, it will be tough to keep everyone. :noidea:

Pretty much, but I'm confident that he will be resigned. Keep in mind when he was acquired people wondered how Dumbo would fit him in and he did - out went Jones, Richards, Williams and other small deals were done to get him squeezed in.The year before that Gaborik was resigned to a long term deal and people wondered if he would be here long term or was just a rental.

I'm positive if the numbers are right Lucic will be here yet again (my guess is it won't be more than a 5 year deal though) and he should be a priority, the Kings paid a price to get him. If they don't, a guy like Eriksson is available as well although a different type of player.

Getting rid of Brown and his contract would allow the most flexibility but that's going to be very hard unless something changes in the next few months where he can be moved somewhere. Playoff results and injuries can make a guy completely untouchable one day and expendable the next and summer will be key, especially at the draft.

Edmonton needs leadership, send him there.

=)~~

That was one hell of a play, I'll give the guy credit. If anything, it pisses me off knowing he can still play like that but for whatever reason doesn't, I mean he burned an annual Norris discussion defender and former winner on that play.
