I don't mean literal I mean a 5 year $80 mil type deal.I believe “lifetime“ contracts are outlawed by the MLB now. I think Pujols (??) contract included a bunch of alternate incomes that bypassed the tax system, so the league made adjustments in response.
This was about 10 years ago, so I may not be remembering it accurately.
I would not advocate signing him to a 5 year dealI don't mean literal I mean a 5 year $80 mil type deal.
I'm not suggesting it's a great deal financially. The last couple years will be overpays. But he deserves a thank you deal. He will get a 4-5 year deal elsewhere if not. And financially it's probably a good idea not to let him go.I would not advocate signing him to a 5 year deal
i could be convinced to do a 2 year deal, but that’s about as long as I would be willing to go.
He can only play 2 out of 3 days anyway.
If he agrees to move to 1B 50% in ‘22 and 90% after that, than MAYBE. But having him around as a 100% catcher just blocks Bart and Bailey.I'm not suggesting it's a great deal financially. I'm sure that all gets discussed/negotiatedIf he agrees to move to 1B 50% in ‘22 and 90% after that, than MAYBE. But having him around as a 100% catcher just blocks Bart and Bailey.
And he can play the remainder of the games at 3b!!If he agrees to move to 1B 50% in ‘22 and 90% after that, than MAYBE. But having him around as a 100% catcher just blocks Bart and Bailey.
Where is @Mays-Fan ??And he can play the remainder of the games at 3b!!
That'd be great but I bet he wants to play for the Braves at least one season before he retires though... or Atlanta United... Just kidding.Maybe they can work out an extension to keep him here for the rest of his career
