I think both of those should be slam dunks at this point no? Assuming nothing changes of course.
22m for each. Buster has a 3m buyout (I could have sworn it was a 6m buyout) and Cueto has a 5m buyout.

Buster would have a net cost 19m for one year and Cueto would have a 17m net cost.

There is still time for Cueto to “earn” the contract, but I just don’t see him being a 17m pitcher anymore. Buster, at 19m I think is a good idea. Make him the bridge between himself and Bart.

Spot on. I think they'll make every effort to keep Buster in one jersey only for his career. JC will get $12M/yr from somebody, barring a complete second half collapse or a complete resurgence. It won't be us.

But we are still down by 1. The sweep has been averted.

If only the giants could show, just once, that they were able to comeback from a 1-run deficit this year...

Exciting game, just a little short

Great series!

Dodgers and Padres lost today too so that's good

Losing Longo hurts but 5 weeks isn't the end of the world.

It was probably a thought by the org for about the first two weeks of the season. Since then? Letting him walk is a no-brainer.
Face of the franchise
a TON of money available
no internal options ready for the opening day gig
still elite defense

ln a 1-year, 19m contract.

a bit steep, but there are intangibles.

Maybe they can work out an extension to keep him here for the rest of his career

I believe “lifetime“ contracts are outlawed by the MLB now. I think Pujols (??) contract included a bunch of alternate incomes that bypassed the tax system, so the league made adjustments in response.

This was about 10 years ago, so I may not be remembering it accurately.
