Mound completely shat by our "ace" in the first.

I think I'm out. Get 'em tomorrow.

Extremely disappointing.

Random thought: this start seals that Webb won't be an All Star.

Well, that game was NOT fun. Webb did rebound nicely after the 1st inning. Unfortunately, however, the 1st inning counted. Seems the secret to Stripling's success is Rogers Centre.

Hope Conforto's hamstring is okay.

From Brisbee today:
However, this was not the Gausman who appeared for the Giants in the second half of 2021. That version looked somewhat cooked. Maybe not in a way that portended doom for the 2022 season, but in a way that didn’t augur well for the last half of a multi-year deal.

His second-half stats: 15 GS, 77 IP, 4.42 ERA. In his one postseason start, he gave up four runs and walked three in a game the Giants lost, 9-2.
Remember that Logan Webb — a 24-year-old who didn’t even have a guaranteed rotation spot a couple months before — started Game 1 of the 2021 NLDS. That was partly because of Webb’s obvious talent, but it was also because Gausman didn’t look as effective as he had been.
When it comes to a young pitcher like Webb, who has arbitration years to buy out and a lot less leverage, you absolutely lock them up. For a pitcher entering his 30s with a lot more leverage, you can’t second-guess the second-guessing.

Especially when that pitcher has had an inconsistent career in his 20s. The Blue Jays gambled and it is working out so far for them. Good for them.
