This year may be too soon, but he is expected to be a fast mover.

Just like Chris Stratton was...

Stratton got eff'ed over, though. Getting hit in the head ain't no easy thang. But I get your overall point, nothing is guaranteed.

Belt leaves the game after 1 AB/2 innings of defense. No word yet

Nah. I was being a shit.

Mize is pretty much the consensus best player in this draft. Stratton was a bit of a reach at pick 20.

I feel like Cutch should be dropped in the lineup, but it's tough to say where to drop him. Hitting him 8th would be a mistake, but the way Gorkys is hitting you kinda want him higher up. Here's what I'd do

Panik- 2B
Posey- C
Belt- 1B
Longoria- 3B
McCutchen- RF
Crawford- SS
Williamson- LF
Hernandez- CF

Completely discounting egos:

Hernandez
Panik
Posey
Belt
Longoria
Crawford
Williamson
McCutchen

Batting 8th is hard. I can’t imagine that would help Cutch. And we know his bat is in there somewhere. He has a history of having rough April/Mays. Give him AT LEAST through June.

I like more power in the 8 slot, so I actually like Gorkys there. Or Craw, but he is kinda in the midst of a breakout, and you can’t put that potent a bat in the 8 hole.

True. Batting leadoff could help him I guess. He still seems to be seeing the ball well, which makes me think he'd be okay batting 8th. Of course he'd probably never see a pitch to hit again, except every 5th day

McCutchen has a career May slash line of .298/.383/.484. That includes this year.

With that, June is better - .319/.394/.525. Its been the best month of his career, followed really closely by July. His August and Sept/Oct lines are closer to May.
