I remember Zaire doing some good things in preseason but not sure I remember Barrett his rookie year doing much more than a couple of plays. Also with just so few return opportunities not really like we have gotten much opportunity to see Addison and Raymond. Have to remember that Zaire and Barrett play positions that they can make easier individual plays. Addison and Raymond could be getting open most plays but with our OL issues and QB's struggling at times maybe it is more they are just not getting the ball thrown to them. Hard to tell with the games we watch since most WR's go off screen and we don't get to see if they are actually open or not.
Barrett really? He was turning heads and getting praise right off the get go. As far as Addison and Raymond, and I know you and DC have this crush on Addison ;) but unless they show something vs Rams and in the week 4 game where they might get opportunity to catch a pass, my early prediction that Sanders will be the punt returner wknd 1 will come true. Norwood, Fowler and Bibbs could factor in kick off returns as well. I know....I'm a jerk for dissing on your guys boys. ;)

Agree they really have. Both have a great opportunity to change that thought process if they can get healthy and actually do something on the field but can't really change a fans minds when you spend all your time in the tub. I think Sambrailo has more of a chance to shine eventually than Heuerman as the coaches still seem very optimistic that Sambrailo will amount to something but the clock is ticking on these guys. Those 4 years go quick on those rookie contracts.
Coble has gotten the opportunity with Huerman and Graham injuries and has done well with his opportunity according to coaches as well. If Huerman doesn't get health and start making some plays, he could be in trouble

I'm not advocating for Addison to be on the week 1 roster. I'm advocating for him to make the practice squad. Yes we haven't seen a ton in games so far but I read the practice reports from quite a few writers every single day and Addison and Raymond have both turned heads at different times for what they can do as WR's and return men. Honestly I would say more evaluation at least for the coaches happens during practice than it does during the games since they are so limited on snaps per player for the preseason. I don't think it would be a big deal if we at least kept one of those guys on the practice squad and see how they develop.

Heuerman is not in trouble of not making the team. No way a guy that is a 3rd round pick that they have spoken so highly of for the past year and a half is getting cut at this point especially at a position that we have 0 depth at. Yes Coble has shown well at different times but he is the guy we can stick on the practice squad and let him develop for a year and call up if needed. Only way I think he makes the roster is if the Broncos are scared they are going to lose him when the cuts start being made.

Randy,

Neither Carl or I have Addison making the active roster. More wishful thinking as I was a big fan of his in college. I'd say he or Raymond and maybe even both have a very good chance to make the PS to extend more experience to them. I don't think both will stay on it for long as we may let them compete for that PS return job as we get them ready down the line.

I HATE the idea of putting Emmanuel Sanders at PR. Those days should be behind him IMO. I hate to see a 7th year starting Pro Bowl caliber WR returning punts. I don't mind putting him back there in crunch time or when we need someone to come up with a tight fair catch that teams often do with dependable return man when we know there is going to be no return; but having him return punts for the duration of the season? No thanks!

I am fine with Norwood if we want to go safe with Sanders playing the PR role I mentioned above.

But truth is Raymond and Addison have much more upside as a PR then Norwood, but it''s hard to throw an inexperienced PR out there. No harm in putting 1 or 2 on the PS to give them an extended look. We have 10 PS slots. Who else are you going to put on the PS at WR? It has to be one of them. We have a history of keeping two WR's on the PS. I would be surprised if 1 of the 2 wasn't at least on the PS and then someone like Durron Neal or whomever.

P.S.- You seem to root against people that others root for. I bet if we all disliked Addison or Raymond you would be rooting for them to do well. ;)

I hope everything is ok with you.

I'm no roster expert by any stretch, but with the plans to run the ball I'll be shocked if we only keep 3 running backs. I still think Hillman has a chance to make the team as he's the only real change of pace back we have, and I think Thompson has a shot since he's basically the back up fullback.

Not sure how that would shake down the rest of the roster, though. Maybe Sambrailo starts the season on the PUP list to push the decision back a few weeks.

Generally teams don't keep a "backup" FB, most teams don't even keep "a" FB anymore, but Thomson can play both RB and FB and if we only keep RB's then it makes sense to possibly keep him as the odd man inactive RB who can play FB or RB if needed in a pinch. Thompson really didn't make an impact on special teams last year to stick around as a 4th string RB.

I don't really get all the talk about since we are going to run a lot we HAVE to keep 4 RB's.

I am sure we will have a RB on the PS, and plucking a RB at the level of a Hillman of Thompson is fairly easy to do on the FA market out there. They are a dime a dozen. It isn't like trying to find that good pass rusher or LT off the market.

I would only keep a 4th RB if someone is worth keeping based on play, that you didn't want to give up. The notion of having to keep a 4th running back not so much.

P.S.- Justin Simmons probably switches to #27 after cuts.

Sambrailo can't start on the PUP. You have to be on the preseason PUP to make it to the Regular season PUP. Since he practiced a few days in training camp he is not eligible.

As for the RB position it just came down to special teams for me. We need our back up RB's to be special teams players and Hillman definitely doesn't fit that mold. He whiffed on Saturday when asked to block on a kick return and his one kick off return that he tried to return he ran away from all of his blockers. Thompson is the one I could see more making the team because he backs up 2 positions plus is pretty good on special teams but they just don't seem to do much with him this year. He has almost exclusively been practicing as a FB this entire camp and as DC said you don't keep a back up FB.

Yeah thompson should be cut. no reason to carry two FB. if we cut him, odds are we could bring him back (or a player of equal caliber)

That's just it with some of these guys being cut on the offensive side of the ball. I don't see them going out and getting scooped up any time soon. So we could cut Sanchez and there is a chance he is a street FA so if we have an injury we could bring him back. Thompson I doubt is signed by anyone. Maybe Hillman gets an offer somewhere. Just trying to think of ways to save roster spots so that we can keep the guys who truly are the 53 best players.

If Siemian does beat out Sanchez, it may make sense to cut Sanchez before week 1 and re-sign him after. That way his contract isn't guaranteed. If he is on our roster week 1 then his contract is guaranteed.

I like this thought right here. Saves us some money that just maybe we can use to sign Sanders long-term with but still have all 3 QB's. I mean Sanchez has to know that no other team is going to offer him more than probably vet minimum at this point.

Huh, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the correction.

Yeah in reality if Sanchez doesn't start week 1 it really doesn't make sense from a money stand point to keep him on the roster. Cut and re-sign him after week 1 or look for another vet QB with some experience like Yates as you mentioned in another thread.

I thought Addison would be close to a lock to make the team this summer bummer.
