He was sent down to bring up a 2nd lefty. Maybe the Giants need to think about shipping out Morris and bring Stratton or Gregorio up as a long reliever.I think we really miss, among other things, a true long reliever. Once Bum went down and Blach slotted into his spot, and Stratton was sent down (for what?!?), these blow out games really chew on the bullpen. These guys are geared for one inning, and they are being called into the game in the 3rd inning.
Gregorio is out of options after this season (if my WAG tracking is accurate). Might as well get a look at him this year to have some idea of what he is.He was sent down to bring up a 2nd lefty. Among the current active roster, the following are not contributing in any meaningful way offensive:Morse has been next to worthless, except for that one homer he hit. He's 3-18 with 9 K's.
I agree with cal on Gregorio. Beede has next crack at a starting spot, and, unless someone gets injured, despite all the poor performances recently from the starting 5, I don't see more than one opening coming available anytime soon. Might as well see what Gregorio can do in the bullpen. If he is needed as a starter, they can stretch him back out.Now I remember, thanks. The 2nd lefty reliever was an absolute necessity.
I'd bring up Stratton as the long reliever. I like Gregorio as a starter. He and Beede have doing well for the Rivercats.
And when we come up for air while doing our fan-ly duty on Arroyo, let's remember he is batting a cool .250 with an OPS barely above .700...Among the current active roster, the following are not contributing in any meaningful way offensive:
Morse - .176/.167/.412 (17 ABs)
Hernandez - .192/.263/.247 (73)
Gillaspie - .176/.256/.206 (34)
Ruggiano - 0 for 3 thus far
If Span, Hill and Parker were active, they would all fall within this category of non production. I think that Tomlinson and Hundley are really close to fitting into this group as well. A couple more poor at-bats and they will be in this group.
That is actually pretty decent for a rookie. I know some guys come up and rake but most rookies struggle much more than Arroyo has. And considering this lineup, that OPS ranks 4th on the team. And when we come up for air while doing our fan-ly duty on Arroyo, let's remember he is batting a cool .250 with an OPS barely above .700...

Have to disagree with the analogy that Arroyo's numbers are awful. There are not great, but a guy who hits .700+ OPS in the big leagues usually stays in the big leagues. And a vegetarians shit smells less rancid than a homeless-dudes shit.
It is still a shit. Stop saying it is the best smelling shit in the sewer.
I was responding you your saying his OPS was good for #4 on the team. That I said akin to continually saying Belt is the team leader in HRs with 4.Have to disagree with the analogy that Arroyo's numbers are awful. Got it. However, when you are in the kindergarten class, your work gets compared to your peers. He's like the 3 year old who got thrown in to the class of 6 year olds repeating kindergarten for the 2nd time and he is holding his own.I was responding you your saying his OPS was good for #4 on the team. Picking out the best drawing from a kindergarten class is still picking out a drawing that a kindergartner drew.
Fair enough.Got it. However, when you are in the kindergarten class, your work gets compared to your peers. He's like the 3 year old who got thrown in to the class of 6 year olds repeating kindergarten for the 2nd time and he is holding his own.
That I won't argue with you.Fair enough.
But I am so tired of people saying so-in-so is good BECAUSE HE LEADS THE GIANTS in such-in-such category.
Totally faulty logic.
