I really hope Johnson is the guy removed from the roster when Melancon is activated. He needs to be back at AAA. At least Gearrin is good about getting out of jams unscathed, once the inherited runners have scored.

This is the key. You gotta bring in a big gun there, not the last guy on the bench.

I would love to see a stat that shows if the Giants have an inordinate amount of good defensive plays made against them or not. It certainly seems they do.

But maybe that is just because the Giants don’t make a lot of big plays so it seems worse than it really is.

He needed to eat some innings and Johnson was probably the most able to do that. With theses starting pitchers it's not going to get much better.

Earliest that Cueto would be eligible to come back is the end of June. Hopefully, he will be back before the ASB. Good news is that Bumgarner could start in the PHI series coming up.

With a tie game, you go short at first, to get your best guys in, and let them pitch two innings if they are efficient. Then, if the game gets out of control, or the team's offense busts out the bats, you bring in Johnson to eat innings.

While bringing in Johnson was questionable, much of the blame goes to the offense. We loaded the bases in the 2nd and 3rd and got not runs out of either scenario. If even one run scores each time, we have a 5-3 lead, which I think gives Blach more confidence. It has to be disheartening for a pitcher to see the offensive ineptitude like this and keep your heart in the game.

Still, Blach's 4th inning was absolutely terrible. 11 consecutive balls to begin the inning. Man, even the Giants might be able to do something against that sort of pitching. Might.

But in that kind of high pressure situation, you are essentially punting the game there by putting in Johnson. He has not been pitching well lately.

Once he blew it open, I am AOK with leaving him in the game, but why not bring in ANYONE other than him there.

i get it. I'm just trying to look at it from Boch's perspective. We already know how few games the SPs are going deep, and inversely, how the innings will be piling up on the BP throughout the season. He has to manage the team for the whole year not just one game, like game 7 vs KC. The workload may have dictated the move. Idn, not being familiar with who needed a break and who needed work. It's just my guess into his reasoning.
