Bama has four in its history, according to its record books, that more than all but four of the Pac 12 current membership. Surprised me when i read it.

We are only now coming into the age of real strength in the Pac. Throughout much of the history of the Pac there were only 3-4 teams that were on top most years and there was quite a bit of disparity between the top and the rest. Sure, a few runs here and there, but the rest of us were the regular power of the conference. Things have been slowing building over the last 10 years and the recent move to 12 teams and a CCG and the mega TV deal with all that money have been enough to start the push over the top.

The SEC is still the top conference... for now. But the Pac isn't that far behind anymore and once USC comes off it's sanctions and finds a coach to take them back to the top I expect a real competition between the two conferences.

A lot of schools don't have the resources or opportunities to win titles and I can respect that. In Oregon's case a BCS bowl should be a big thing and a win huge. Build that resume up and then they can talk a little smack but I saw that trophy case in the renovated facilities and that was pretty pathetic considering how long they have been playing in a major conference and especially since the PAC struggled for a decade.
