'95. Steve Young got hurt in that game and missed the next 5 games. Thats when Elvis stepped in...managed to lose to the Saints and Panthers..and then destroyed the Cowboys.

I was mad the Niners didn't do more about the RB position that year & the next. I think Young was the leading rusher one of those years. Maybe it's a good thing he didn't play as much as other HOF QBs because he was a friggn' punching bag for a lot of years.

49ers scoring drives tonight:

11 plays, 66 yards, 4:56
2 plays, 32 yards, 15 seconds
6 plays, 62 yards, 2:44
1 play, 51 yards, 8 seconds
12 plays, 75 yards, 7:02

Talk about variety.

Me too! I was pissed they let Waters go and to get no one to replace him was fucking stupid as shit. Derek Loville was pure crap

Watching this QB play tonight I can't help but think of this other performance I've mentioned a few times before....the all-time vintage preseason-QB-looking-amazing performance, Chargers vs. 49ers preseason 2005:

Lemon finished the night 12-of-14 passing for 145 yards and two touchdowns, good for a quarterback rating of 149.4. His only two incompletions came on the final drive when he was forced to spike the ball to kill the clock.

I thought they were going to get Hampton. Man, niners would have won the next year too if they got him from the Giants.

Chargers supposedly feel pretty good about Lee if you read some of the things coming out from them.

I seem to remember them not having a 100 yard rusher the entire '95 season and most of the '96 season. If Im not mistaken they snapped the streakin '96 vs. the Falcons in Atlanta with Terry Kirby. But even that took a lot of effort on their part in that game. It wasnt as if he was breaking off long runs or anything to get it.

It was almost as if the 49ers said in '95 that "hey, we're the 49ers, and we can plug anyone in at running back and be just fine". I wish they had found a way to keep Watters.

I'll never forget Rick Mirer vs Jeff Garcia during the pre-season. There was a lot of people on "this" board that where overrating Mirer's play.
