For what it's worth, the umpires in the Pirates game tonight are worse than any NHL ref has been this year, at least behind the plate. I've never seen such an inconsistent strike zone (and by that I mean the Pirate hitters have to swing out of the zone and the pitchers have only the middle of the zone to work with).

Lecavalier shouldn't be arguing. He didn't hit Orpik hard, but if you hit a guy after the whistle that far away from the puck, you're going to get called. That was just stupid on his part.

I just want a 15-game improvement. But this has been a theme all year, and if it keeps up, the Pirates aren't even going to manage that. It's got to be upsetting to the young guys for sure. McCutchen has struck out looking a lot this season, and he's got a keen eye, so it's probably wearing on him that he can't take pitches off the plate to draw walks like he usually does, and the pitchers historically have control issues as it is, so this shrunken strike zone has to be awful for them.

EDIT: Also, they're winning 3-1 right now.
