Someone's gotta make way for Smith and (probably) Melancon

Gomez and Osich have options. One goes down for Beede, and the other for whoever gets activated first (most likely Smith). Depending how Johnson or Moronta are doing, Dyson will at least be around until Melancon is ready to be activated. If Dyson is serviceable, he'll stick. I doubt Moronta or Johnson will continue to pitch well enough to force Dyson but it could happen.

Gotta figure 2 of Gomez, Johnson and Moronta are the first to go. But Sammy and Bum will also need spots, as will Beede next week (possibly).

Samardzija will take Beede's spot. I think Bumgarner gets pushed to the 60 day for Beede's contract to be purchased (or maybe Chase Johnson). The 40 man will get interesting, though, once Bumgarner is ready for activation.

Actually this is pretty normal for relievers, it's very very rare they stay really good for many years. All the more reason Mariano was one of the best ever.

Which explains why some teams will jettison a reliever who had a career year sometimes, they expect him to come crashing back down.

That was moneybalł. The Giants realized the pen was an overlooked commodity in the game.

That I should no longer the case.

For all the talk in the early decade about the Giants not being innovative, they spearheaded two massive trends in baseball: the bullpen usage, and the ground attack.

Bullpens weren't a big deal until the Giants won two World Series behind them, and the contact-based hitting took over for a couple years that led to back-to-back championships (Giants and Royals).

Of course now the Giants are behind their own revolutions as the game turned more toward power in both the Pen and hitting.

It is his turn.

There were weather concerns in AAA, so they sent Beede down to assure he would be ready for the start in SF. Suarez started just because the game was actually played.

They may not need another 5th starter between that start and when Samardzija is ready. Beede is already on the 40 man. I agree.

And they do actually manage a hit, the runners don’t score (or even advance).

I think it is essentially a coincidental stat. Until it isn’t anymore. And at this point, it is a thing with this team.

Remember, during the first half of ‘16, this team was killing the ball with RISP. And then the all star game happened and the team broke.

I can’t wait to find out what happened to cause that. SOMETHING had to have happened. It wasn’t just a fluke.
