But Luciano’s block wasn’t even there until spring training. It is just as likely the Giants wait until the trading deadline to dump Ahmed and pick up someone else as it is Luciano is starting by May.

Luciano showed last year that he needed more cook-time. Bringing in a disposable vet to keep his seat warm made 100% sense. It would have been more difficult to kick Craw to the curb, so actually, Ahmed made more sense for this role.
