Not that I have a lot faith that it will work out, but I like seeing VR getting more time at 2B. He has a solid bat. We need to find SOMEWHERE for him to play. 3B works for now, but Schmitt is coming FAST. I am not certain his bat is good enough for 1B. 2B would be great, but he doesn’t look to have the glove for it (yet). Outside of those spots, I want to make sure he gets a proper look see in left.

This lineup looks like the contingency plan if all of Crawford, Haniger and Slater start the year on the IL. Estrada slides to short, Both Johnson and Piscotty are possibilities in the outfield.

Also, I really hope LWJ is NOT the leadoff guy for ANY regular season games. He has not drawn 1 walk in 27 spring ABs. In fact, his OBP (.179) is lower than his average (.187). That is pretty amazing. I understand that spring training stats are close to irrelevant but they are concerning when he didn't do so well last year (.207/.305/.359 in 251 PAs). Even worse, he got 157 PAs last year batting 1st in the lineup and posted a .202/.308/.336 slash in that spot. And is he really going to be the guy at 1st base most days, regardless of pitcher handedness? He only got 33 PAs against lefties last year and hit .100/.152/.100. In 2021 (his one good year thus far), he only got 42 PAs against lefties (out of 381 PAs total) and hit .135/.200/.189. He needs to platoon with someone and does NOT need to bat 1st in the lineup.

I agree; I like that this org is willing to move guys around to see if they can handle new positions (esp in ST). If he can handle 2b, then that frees up Tyro for SS when Craw is done.

Lumber with a clean bottom first -- 2Ks.

We've loaded the bases top second vs. Thor -- 3 singles. One out.

Interesting that this late in spring, they will have such a short leash on Thor.

Lumber finished his day with 5IP 1H 6K. No runs, no walks.
Hjelle gave up three hits and a run in the sixth.
Bryce with a 2 out, 2 run single. Double steal with him on first, Davis on third -- Davis out at home.

Tyro with his fourth solid AB today, an RBI single T7...good guys 7-1

I really like to see Wilson having a nice spring. I think his classification as a top prospect is gone, but I think he can still develop into a Mike Gallego-type (++ defense at multiple positions, but not much of a bat). If he can generate an OK bat, he may be able to put together a long career as a journeyman Util player/occasional starter in the right situation.

I think Wilson's hit as a prospect is a bit unfounded. His numbers in 2023 are not that different than in previous seasons. His debut with the Angels' org in 2019 had him post a .768 OPS in advanced rookie ball. When he got to play again in 2021, his posted a .712 OPS between high A and AA ball (his AA numbers were a bit rough). Then, he split the year between rookie ball, AA and AAA and posted a .798 OPS. That number is a bit deceiving because he killed it in his 9 game rehab at rookie ball. Take that away and his OPS was .729. So unless the expectation was that he would begin to post OPS north of .825 as he moved up the ladder, I'm not really sure why prospect evaluators suddenly soured on him. Seems to me that he's been fairly consistent. It does seem that he has struggles adjusting to the next level, when he first gets promoted, so I will be interested to see how he responds at AAA. I think, with regular playing time, he may hit close to an .800 OPS but may struggle with his first taste of the big leagues.

I didn't finish my thought - I didn't really see why he was such an exciting prospect to acquire but now am rooting for him to do well. I think your evaluation of a Mike Gallegos-type was my original thought on him. Seemed, until recently, he was valued more as a Tony Phillips/Ben Zobrist type player.

I think I heard/read something at the time the trade was made that the Giants really liked him going into the draft and were debating between him and Bishop at #10.
