Not like Portland played exactly well either lol.

Dame doesn't usually shoot this poorly.

Portland shot 42% and made 3 more 3's than Denver on the same amount of attempts.

Let's quit acting like Portland played some great offensive game because they didn't.

Both teams struggled big time on offense

This was ugly ugly basketball. Not pretty at all

You give Denver the 42% from the floor and they win the game. Or give Denver those 3 extra 3’s and they win the game as well. Sure Portland played better than Denver but if Denver even plays the exact same as Portland and not much much worse they are up 2-0 in the series.

So you're saying that if Denver shot as well as Portland they would have won? Isn't that true in nearly every game?

Portland's bench is better than Denver's. If Portland had Nurkic this would be a 5 or 6 game series.

Only when you shoot as poorly as Denver did. Normally if both teams are about even then it’s whoever shot better but Denver took 13 more floor shots than Portland and the same amount of 3’s. So if Denver doesn’t completely suck ass at shooting tonight they win easy.

Maybe. But it is also reasonable to believe that the Blazers will shoot better as well.

Will Barton needs to step up his game.

There aren't too many shooting nights Lillard is going to play like that, both teams played like shit. Denver has to win those type of games especially at home with Lillard having his worst game of the playoffs easily.

Advantage Portland.

If Portland had played well and the Nuggets played like crap, you might have a point.

However, Portland didn't play well either and their star had his worst game in the playoffs.

Your post assumes improvement by the Nuggets but doesn't allow for any improvement by the Blazers.

I can't recall the last time a team had 20 or more offensive rebounds and lost. That was a game of who wanted to lose. Nonetheless, the second half of the 4th was compelling as teams blew chance after chance.

Dame played poorly, Denver owned the rebounds, in Denver, yet Portland won the game. Sure Denver shot poorly, but so did Portland and Denver also, again, owned the rebounds.

That game had shades of 90's basketball with how physical it was. It was fun.

Portland attacked Jokic and got him into foul trouble which turned the tides. That needs to be the continued game plan for the rest of the series because Denver is not that good with Jokic out. They got some players, but they aren't nearly as difficult with him on the bench.

Portland needs to rebound though.

Oh and with getting Jokic in foul trouble, when he had 5 fouls and was in the game late, there was no way the refs were giving him his 6th foul. I think he would have had to blatantly punched someone to draw his 6th.

That's why the NBA is a lot like "pro" wrestling. Not so much that games are pre-determined, but that good players get the star treatment and that can determine the outcome of a game.

Yeah, star treatment is something that I wish the NBA would get rid of. If it's a foul for a regular player, it's a foul for a star player.

I understand the position that the refs and the league are in though.

The NBA is the most star driven of the professional sports leagues and people pay a lot of money to go to the games and see the star players. Television stations also pay a lot of money to broadcast the games that those stars are in.

When a star player is out of a game for a long stretch because he's in foul trouble or out of a game entirely because he fouled out it hurts viewership.

The late, great Chick Hearn used to advocate for doing away with fouling out. He preferred a system where once a player gets past 6 fouls, then every foul they commit after that results in 2 free throws and the opponent keeping possession of the ball.

Keeps them in the game, but provides a pretty tough "punishment" for continuing to foul.

NBA Bernie Fryer stated it this way (paraphrased): This league is about marketing and making money- for everyone. If certain players can't get their playing time, it hurts everyone.
