Thanks. I heard it from the ny post rag … espn confirms it

From Celtics on X:
Jayson Tatum today underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. No timetable is currently available for his return, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.

He seemed to show more pain than what we normally see when it's an Achilles. With his reaction, I thought/hoped maybe he broke something. Thought it might be like that broken foot Kevin McHale played through in the 80's playoffs.

That sucks, if it required surgery it seems likely he misses next year as well. I hope it is a faster recovery than you usually see with an injury like that.

If I had to guess, Tatum was showing both physical and mental anguish... he knew right away.

Were they?

Or were organizations just dumber for letting players play through significant injuries.
Well I actually was joking but I’m trying to think if I remember as many Achilles injuries back then.

I’m not sure why they couldn’t announce it last night though … they most likely knew on the floor … even Brad Stevens jumped in and helped him to the wheelchair
… maybe wanted to announce ‘a full recovery is expected’ once after the surgery

Probably. I've heard most guys do.

When Kobe's popped, his first thought was that a trailing defender had accidentally kicked or stepped on his heel and was looking for a call. When he realized that hadn't happened...he knew it was the Achilles.

Yeah Babe Ruth, the legend, would eat a rack of ribs and 12 beers before the game and hit 3 HR’s. He died when he was 53.
Tougher or stupider? You know the answer

More likely that they were holding on to hope that it was something else. Plus, you don't want to release anything until an MRI confirms it.

I think they waited after it was surgically repaired(!) … idk what that means , but they say a full recovery expected

The biggest thing in Tatums favor is that he's only 27. He should have a solid chance to at least get back to close to what he is now.

He must have gone pretty much from the MRI to the OR. If that's the case, then it's smart because they got to announce the injury along with a successful surgery. Won't have days of speculation about the surgery.

Also gets his teammates past it quicker, they still have at least 1 more game to play.

That's how you do it... die young and leave a flabby, bloated corpse.
